It's been out for awhile.

The silver Daxter pack came out in late Sept. and the white starwars pack and the stock piano black one came out on Oct. 9th (correlating with the release date for star wars game).

I ended up getting a Star Wars white one with vader on the back and the game since I have to fly to Boston next week and wanted something to do on the plane.

The new 'slim' doesn't quite feel as sturdy as my GF's older model; however, it's a ton lighter so that's probably part of why. They definitely removed a lot of latches and such though to shrink it down. Overall it's pretty tight though and quite a bit 'slimmer' than the old one and definitely a lot lighter.

there's the link to the star wars one on amazon.. can find the other two from there.

Do you mean the psp slim that just came out?
If so you can get it in a sweet bundle wit Daxter, family guy and a 1GB MSPD for a cool $200.
There is also a psp slim star wars pack as well.

If you want to get the newer model, are you limited to only two choices?

No.

The 'stock' piano black model is sold by itself without any game with it.

Black:
http://www.amazon.com/PSP-2000-Conso...blurayforum-20

Silver (w/Daxter&FamilyGuy):
http://www.amazon.com/PSP-Daxter-Ent...blurayforum-20

White (w/Star Wars:RenegadeSquadron):
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Battlefro...blurayforum-20

These three are the only options for a 'slim' at this time.

Are you serious? F'ing Star Wars! The Darth Vader edition should have been black!!! I feel really ripped off now.

Unless you are a Star Wars geek, avoid the Star Wars pack. One game (not all that either, I think Daxter probably be more fun but online is okay), battery, charger, and a white "Vader" PSP with a sticker (I'm calling it a sticker) on the back for $200.

Should have been Piano black with a white Empire Insignia on the back and all the extra sthe Daxter pak brought.

Default PSP Daxter/Family Guy Edition

I recently bought the newer lighter version a couple of weeks ago. It's really great. They've moved the speakers to the front and the WLAN switch to the top so you don't accidently disable it.

2 PS3 60GB
Sony 50in SXRD
Pioneer VSX-817 Receiver
12 in Pioneer Front Speakers
12 in Sony Rear Speakers
8 in Definitive Tech. Subwoofer
Silver Slim PSP

Departed
Superman Returns

I have mine on preorder from bestbuy. I read an article on IGN.com about the newer model and there is no reason in my mind about why you should not upgrade.

I'm starting to find some minor issues with my new Slim lately...

The 'click in/click out' plastic doors and pieces as well as the battery is kind of awkward. I definitely prefer the security and ease of use of the latches on the older model.

The battery is a pretty big problem. Few people seem to know that the Slim has a 1200mah battery as opposed to the 1800mah in the older PSP model. This means the Slim technically has approx. 30% less play time.

This wouldn't be such a big deal; however, Sony released the Slim without releasing replacement/backup batteries for it yet. You can't by a new battery for your Slim until late November and the old batteries from the older model do not fit in the Slim (if you want to be able to 'seal them in' with the cover that is... they can pop in and work but stick out the back). There is no extended battery that will fit inside the Slim with the cover on.

This is troubling to me as I picked one up for traveling and the approx. 3 hours battery life isn't really gonna cut it (traveling 8 hours or so through airports this wednesday, for example). It kind of leaves you hanging.

I guess it's just a lack of good accessories available for the Slim and it will change in time. Just a bummer right now when I need the power. I wish Sony would make a well thought out external battery that plugged in through either the USB port or the AC port. The current few on the market are pretty chinzy and not so user friendly.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Maybe sony will either put an external battery out or will redesign the psp again.

I like the new doors, the old slot for the memory card would just randomly come out during regular gameplay on the old system...

The slim uses less power than the original system, giving it about the same play time as the original system, even with the change in battery size.

I find this odd as well, no idea why they haven't released extra batteries yet. Of course, when the original system came out it was the same deal and extra batteries didn't come out for a few months

Agreed that the current power accessories out are cheap and basically worthless, Sony needs to release something of their own...but I don't see that happening.

I also have a problem with charging via the USB port, can't seem to get it to work, and you apparently can't play games while it charges via USB either.

Did you check your system settings to be sure the 'USB charging' or whatever was set to 'on'?

I was charging mine via USB to my PC (transfering some content back and forth) and also played Hot Shots Golf a little bit no problems.

Yeah, turned that setting to on.

I'll mess around with it more later.
