Default DVD Empire numbers, Blu-ray OK?

Just looked at the DVD Empire numbers to see what impact Transformers is having on the format war and it looks like Blu-ray is doing OK. A few days ago BD and HD-DVD were relatively level 50:50, but today BD has pulled ahead to 55:45.

Now I don't know if DVD Empire has the BOGOF sale on, but if these numbers are reflected in the Nielson figures, HD-DVD might not get the win they were looking for.

DVDEmpire.com doesn't have that. They have Disturbia and Transformers on sale if you buy them together on HD-DVD... But that's about it. So even with Transformers and no Blu-Rays on sale, Blu-Ray seems to be selling pretty good there...

Nope, no BOGO sale at DVDEmpire. I am guessing that Sony and Disney wanted their sale to have as much of an impact on sales stats as possible...

I azm not surprised. I don't think this will reflect the sales numbers though. Sure they have one good film out this week, but with the BOGO sales, I think we will dominate again.. at least 60/40 if not more. I bet it will be closer to 65/35.

Don't forget all the Amazon pre-orders do not show up this week on their charts, rather when they were pre-ordered. (as you can see how well spiderman is selling now, this is not added into the weeks release sales)
So if Blu-ray is ahead this week by the sales, you would have to add the thousands of pre-orders that occured since it was available.
Is it enough to sway the percent? If 50,000 were pre-ordered it would.

Thats why I like to use DVD Empire as a guide, the fact that they don't include pre-orders. What we see on Empire is a realtime day by date comparision.

I expected Transformers to sway the numbers 40:60 to HD-DVD without Blu-rays includion of a BOGOF sale. But its looking good so far.

I take it tomorrows Nielsons figures won't include Transformers or the BOGOF sale?

It should include the Sunday sales when the BOGO at B&Ms started.

Yeah I think its funny myself. blu-ray is still going to pull out the win this week.

On a side note: I thought blu-ray had more studios backing them than hd dvd....? Since when did it turn around? DVDempire claims theres 34 backing blu-ray and 37 backing hd dvd....?

Blu-ray has more major studios. DVDempire has tended to favor HD DVD and is no doubt counting many tiny studios with very little output. There are more titles available on Blu-ray than HD DVD. And it looks like the gap is growing.
