Larry Darrell (Bill Murray) returns from the battlefields of World War 1 to America a different person. His fiance (Isabel) resigns herself to a delay in the wedding plans when Larry heads off to Paris. There he finds he prefers a simpler existence and begins to read. One book inspires him to visit India and on to Nepal where he finds spiritual help from a lama. On returning to Paris he finds Isabel and some old friends. Everyone has changed.

Critics have their reasons for disliking it and preferring to read the book or watch the original 1946 film adaptation.
But I never read the book or watched the original. I've only seen this one and I have always loved it.
Absent a third remake, I think time will prove kindly to this 1984 version, especially if given a proper HD transfer to blu-ray.
Without knowing what condition the film is in, I can't say there's any guarantee it will grow into newer formats.
But I like to think if the film were in good condition and they took their time with it, this would/should look great on blu-ray.
Bill was very devoted to this film being made and I wouldn't be surprised if he's keeping a personal copy of this film well preserved.
