Default BR Player - Why buy anything but Sony?

Just wondering, since I believe that Sony pioneered Blu-Ray technology, why - if you were buying a stand alone BR player - would you buy anything other than a Sony product?

What does the HQV chip do for you and the ethernet port would be to record from on-line?

The following is more of an observation than an answer to the question posed by this thread.
Some people have a bizarre hatred of all things Sony. I will often see posts on other forums where people bash Sony for trying to make money. They're not Greenpeace they exist to turn a profit. Some people just have no grasp of business.
What's especially weird is that most of them act as though the 100s of millions of people who have and appreciate Sony products have all been misled and that they are too wise to be fooled by Sony's manipulations. Paranoid delusional behavior directed at an electronics company is so funny. I could understand if they were distrusting of the oil and pharmaceutical companies, but a manufacturer of electronics products.? This reeks of fanaticism. You've all been fooled, but I will lead you to consumer safety if you just believe in my teachings.
Sony makes top notch home electronics products that is why they can charge premium prices and still have phenomenal sales and customer satisfaction.

I have the Sony S300, Sony are good and you know there will be firmware upgrades for their models available for a while, but they do lack some audio features other manufactures have, slower load times (which don't bother me, I can wait a couple of minutes before certain titles start). No eithernet port for updates. But they are solid players and the PQ is stunning.

HQV & samsung 1200:

http://www.hqv.com/news/bdp1200revie...TOKEN=98534376

ethernet port:
for updating only now but...

the player maybe able to be upgraded to 2.0 specs, since the player also has a SD card port to upgrade the memory (2.0 does not require X amount of internal memory).

Default BR Player - Why buy anything but Sony?

Let's see, how about because the Pioneer players recently have been reviewed by many sources to be the absolute best HD players of any kind, that obviously includes HD DVD. Many reviewers recently have said the Pioneer BDP-94HD has the best picture on the planet, bar none. Now that the BDP-95FD is hitting the street, I'm sure it will take that throne. Also the 95 can bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS HDMA into the newer receivers (it sounds phenomenal by the way, I got mine today)

It would not surprise me at all to see Profile 2.0 implemented in Samsung standalones before any other manufacturer's players because they seem to be the leader in bringing new features to the format. The fact that they have the HQV Reon chipset in the higher-end models shows that they are very serious about the technology, not to mention they were the first to bring us DTS-HD MA via Bitstream. This article reveals a bit more about Samsung's commitment to Blu-ray (though it was written back in April):

http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/04/11...mplementation/

A Samsung player will most likely be my standalone Blu-ray player purchase.

Yes, the Pioneer players have received great reviews. Unfortunately, I went through 4 laserdisc players from Pioneer (they also received great reviews), and I am hesitant in purchasing another "laser device" from them.

If they were BD-LIVE compatible I would probably reconsider, but like I said in my previous post, I think Sammy will beat all the other standalones to BD-LIVE so my money is probably going to go to them.

I like Sony and have been using this brand for over two decades. I cannot complain much. The only thing IMHO they are not good at is Speakers. All in all they have been part of my Electronic life.
BTW that is the first time ever I am gonna use a Receiver (Amp in the past) other than Sony for more than 25 years... it will be the one in my Sig (Denon AVR-4308CI).

We have the Pioneer BDP-94HD in our living room and the Panasonic DMP-BD10 in our bedroom. We have absolutely no complains whatsoever. They are both 2 flawless machines

I still have my LD-95 and it has never caused me a problem, (nor did the previous ones I owned) and I still use it. My two Pioneer DVD players (1 Elite, 1 not) have been bullet proof. The BDP-95 has an ethernet port so I believe it will be firmware upgradeable, although I may or may not put it to use, the jury is out for me on my interest in BD Live. We will see....

The firmware will be upgradeable but it will never hit 1.1. That is according to Chris Waker and Jeff Hagg both pioneer employees. The ethernet port is also for Home Media Gallery. I agree about the pioneer products being rock solid. I still have a 703 LD player as well as VSX-D1S that both work.

Pioneer will be announing a new player a the Jan. show that will be full profile. Should be intersting to see if it is 1.1 or 2.0.

lol, hate or not SONY is absoulutly overall the BEST CE in history so far!!! and innovation and design have always been the core of a true SONY.
