20th Century Fox Fantastic Voyage (1966)

Fantastic Voyage Blu-ray

Quote:
Prepare to journey into the deepest reaches of space... inner space! Stephen Boyd, Donald Pleasence and Raquel Welch in her feature-film debut, star in "one of the most ingenious, inventive, imaginative, science fiction films Hollywood has ever produced" (Citizen-News).

The science of miniaturization has been unlocked, and the army has big plans. But when a scientist carrying the secret of the process is injured in a surprise attack, a life-threatening blood clot puts him into a coma. Now, a team of adventurers will have to use the technology to travel inside his body and destroy the clot. But with the mysteries of the body's natural defenses fighting them, and a determined saboteur on board, can they locate and destroy the problem before the miniaturization wears off?
[Show spoiler]Update. Release date: October 8th.

Including what they haven't announced yet oildude.

For some odd reason that only Fox marketing fully understands, they have always piggybacked their home video releases of Fantastic Voyage with Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea - on DVD literally as a double-feature double-sided disc. When Fox later re-released both of these titles as separate special editions under their "Cinema Classics" DVD banner, once again they hit the street almost simultaneously. So unless Fox is totally breaking with precedent here, I would bet a fin that within a month (or less) of FV, we will also see VTTBOTS. Maybe even day-and-date.

*Yawn*

Fox also announced that it will revive "Studio Classics" line in 2013 with monthly releases;hence the busy part.

Canada For FV fans...

Just one of the original production stills from Fantastic Voyage:

What I always liked about this still is that it's a somewhat hard-to-find behind-the-scenes shot showing the large blue screen set used for much of this picture. In most other stills, we see this shot as a completed optical with the window matte background inserted.

And that would be great news! I've got that old double feature DVD. VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA is my preferred movie. Here's a 39" Seaview I have on display.

BTW...did you ever notice all of the great sci-fi movie and TV vessels have been commanded by Canadians? Leslie Neilsen in the C57D, Walter Pidgeon in the Seaview, William Shatner in the Enterprise and Lorne Greene in the Battlestar Galactica. They put American Guy Williams in charge of the Jupiter 2 and it crashed on another planet and never returned to Earth!

The hell with the optics, my focus is on Raquel! If only that zipper was down a little more.

UK Blu-ray is coming this November from Fox. U.S. release will probably be announced soon, along with Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

Quote:
Now then… it seems as if Fox’s Fantastic Voyage and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea are coming to Blu-ray Disc in the U.K. on 11/4. There’s no word yet of a U.S. release, though we believe you can be sure there is a U.S. release coming (and we’ve asked the studio for confirmation). It’s possible the titles could be retail exclusive initially here in the States. We’ll let you know when we do.
