Great movie. I wasn't sure what to expect as the trailer made it look quite different from David Ayer's previous efforts, but it turned out awesome. The chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Pena is unbelievable, you instantly begin to care about their characters. The movie also benefits from that "documentary" touch. I also would like to note that it was shot by a Russian cinematographer Roman Vasyanov

Let me start off with some cons: the bad guys were annoying, especially Big Evil, and the story is predictable.
Other than that, I really enjoyed the heck out of the movie. Definitely a great movie - lots of humor and a terrific "buddy cop" film. The chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Peña is amazing and acting is top-notch. The movie benefits from the documentary style as it greatly adds to the realism. 8.5/10 |

I felt somewhat let down by this movie. While the handheld camera work gives the movie a realistic feel, it also can be very annoying at times. There were many times when it was impossible to see what was going on. The story was very predictable and like Rudeboy I thought the villains were annoying and their acting wasn't always believable. I saw this and Dredd yesterday and I enjoyed Dredd significantly more. Not a bad movie by any stretch, but more a rental in my opinion. 3/5

@supersix - My theater was packed last night. Dredd, on the other hand, was pretty empty ![]() |

3/5 for me. I also thought the gang members were annoying as hell, especially the female one. She wasn't very convincing. Also, I didn't enjoy the ending. It could have been stronger. It felt a little rushed and underwhelming. I wished they would have ended it with something thought provoking. However, I did enjoy the movie.

i feel this and Training Day are totally different movies.. for starters Training day is about a rookie on his first day of work having the crappy luck of being partnered up with a crooked cop.. End of Watch is a documentary type movie of 2 established partners and what goes on through their day as "Ghetto Cops" as they call themselves.. either day i enjoyed this more then Training Day but like Training Day i feel both of these movies aren't a blu-ray buy for me.. End of Watch was really good and had a great real feel to it.. it was great getting a good cop movie, however it did have some flaws, the biggest for me was the ending.. it just didn't feel all that powerful and was just annoying and predictable for me

lol I honestly can't think of another movie off hand that had such good back and fourth between partners, maybe lethal weapon, but not nearly as gritty as this. Pena and Gyll just mesh PERFECTLY ![]() Whoever wrote the dialogue needs a promotion as-well. |
