1. Inland Empire - The Phantom/the face (Oh my god, I wont watch that film ever again, it was really good but I just can't).
2. Ju-On: The Grudge - Bedroom/TV/Phone scene (you know the bit where that woman is under the covers. Oh my god I basically died). 3. John Carpenter's The Thing - Blood test scene. (It like jumps out and when it does, it's one of those moments where you're mouth is hanging open and then you're like 'yeah, I'm done.' 4. Cannibal Holocaust - The adulteress' punishment. (I was almost in tears on this bit). 5. I Spit on Your Grave (original) - Castration. (UR, NO. I hate castration in films, when the blood spews all out, ur, it was horrid). 6. Audition - Discovers what's in the bag/dream. (I'm pretty sure that kind of thing shouldn't be in a potato sack, and also, he eats vomit, why would you even do that?) 7. Irreversible - Fire Extinguisher meet Head. (This makes me feel sick when I see it). 8. Dawn of the Dead - The zombies munch on the bikers. (This used to scare the hell out of me when I was little and I still find it hard to watch). 9. Tommy - Uncle Ernie (Fiddle About). (Oh my god, I know it's comedic, but it makes me feel really uneasy - I just can't). 10. Mullholland Drive - The Diner. (I know it's just, like, a hobo, but it's shocking and the guy, like, dies when he sees him and it was scary and made me want to take a bath). 11. Perfect Blue - The (actual) rape scene. (This whole film is disturbing, example, the bit where she's acting that she's getting raped, only for this to then happen a few scenes later). 12. Rear Window - When he stares right at the protagonist's camera. (OH MY GOD. GET OUT OF THE ROOM. I KNOW YOU CAN'T MOVE. BUT LIKE, CRAWL OR SOMETHING. OH MY GOD. HE'S LOOKING RIGHT AT YOU. OH NO. USE YOUR CAMERA FLASH, USE IT!!!) 13. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Focus on the insects in the corner of the room. (I have a phobia of ugly insects). |

I don't do a lot of horror, so you'll see several scenes from the same few movies here.
01. Alien (1979) Chestburster scene. 02. The Thing (1982) When Cooper tries to defibrilate Norris, his chest opens up and "bites" off both of Cooper's arms. Then Norris's head falls off, grows legs, and heads for the door. 03. The Thing (1982) The blood test scene: first the blood jumps out of the container and then The Thing reveals itself and eats another guys head. 04. The Thing (1982) The Thing kills/eats the other dogs while locked in the kennel with them. 05. The Thing (2011) The Thing is walking around on all fours like a distorted human and partially absorbs another guy. 06. The Shining (1980) The Twins. 07. Alien (1979) The Alien makes its first appearance (grown) and takes Brett into the vent shaft. 08. The Thing (2011) The Thing emerges from the ice block. 09. Poltergeist (1982) "They're here." 10. Alien (1979) Facehugger emerges from egg and latches onto Kane. 11. Event Horizon (1998) Dr. Weir kills D.J. 12. Event Horizon (1998) Watching the ship's logs. 13. Event Horizon (1997) Justin is pulled into the portal. Obviously, Al the Strange and I have seen alot of the same movies. I could play with the order of these all day long, but I'm going to resist the urge to do so and leave them as they are. |

![]() And the hobo is scary, but old people are scarier. Also who doesn't grin during that scene, it's horrifically brilliant. |

1) Terminator 2: Judgment Day - The nuke scene (still the only scene in any movie that I cannot watch because it looks so terrifyingly real)
2) Threads - The nuke scene (yeah, I'm kind of terrified of nuclear explosions) 3) The Thing - The blood test 4) Alien - The chestburster 5) Jacob's Ladder - The party gone to hell (if you've ever seen this movie, I think you know which scene I'm referring to) 6) Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The hammer and the twitch (oh god, the twitch) 7) Se7en - Sloth 8) Friday the 13th - The final jump scare 9) The Thing - The Thing-infused dogs 10) Zombie - The eye-popper 11) A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors - "Let's get high." 12) The Shining - "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." (The music is what makes the whole scene so terrifying to me) 13) Carrie - The hand |

1. The Exorcist (1973) – Karras’ dream. This scene always has me in a state of dread because I’m awaiting the shot of that bastard Captain Howdy. I think the minimal sound makes it all the more effective, though, and this goes for much of the film.
2. The Beyond (1981) – The spider scene. As somebody with a fear of spiders, the scene in which the guy’s face is torn apart by them is pretty horrible to watch. Funnily enough, I was much more unsettled by the fake tarantulas than the real ones. They’re so damn ugly and the thought of a large spider sticking one of its legs down my throat makes me squirm. 3. Cannibal Holocaust (1980) – The last of the found footage. The film is so nasty and intense that, by the end of it, I felt physically exhausted. 4. An American Werewolf in London (1981) – The transformation. There’s something about the shot of David reaching out for the camera that creeps me out. The same goes for David’s face changing in close-up, a testament to the still-impressive effects. 5. Inland Empire (2006) – Nikki confronts The Phantom. The distorted shot of Laura Dern’s face came out of nowhere and I guess my girlfriend’s hatred of that scene (she’s terrified of it!) has rubbed off on me. 6. Audition (1999) – The scene where we discover just what’s in that sack. It was unsettling, unexpected and just plain gross. 7. Alien (1979) – Dallas in the duct. It’s a very tense scene and the jump scare consisting of Dallas shining his torch on the xenomorph, which holds out its arms as if in dire need of a hug, never fails to shit me up. 8. The Last House on the Left (1972) – Phyllis’ death. I’ve seen the film so many times that the power and intensity it held upon initial viewing has been diluted, but I love it and I think the scene in which the villains stab Phyllis to death (and tear out her intestines) is still a vicious and powerful scene. The documentary-like approach makes you feel like you’re watching a snuff film. 9. Eden Lake (2008) – The ending. I’ve never felt so angry during a film and the bleak conclusion was just the tip of the iceberg. 10. Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975) – The Circle of Blood. Some of the remaining victims are dispatched of in various gruesome ways. I thought the shot of the girl being scalped was particularly unpleasant. 11. Mulholland Drive (2001) – Diane’s apartment. There are several scenes in the film which may classify as scary and I thought the one in which the discover the corpse on the bed was quite disturbing. 12. The Evil Dead (1981) – “What happened to her eyes!?” I’ve always thought that image of possessed Cheryl in the basement, when she’s shrouded in darkness and cackling like a crazy *****, was quite effective. 13. Pet Sematary (1989) – The scene in which Rachel wanders into a room to find her sister Zelda waiting for her. I’m thankful that neither of my sisters are as twisted as Zelda.
