Default Best Buy "supports" Blu-ray?

I work at best buy and i noticed this week that we expanded blu ray and i asked the media supervisor why? Her response was that blu ray is supported by more movie studios. I asked does that mean best buy supports blu ray? she did not answer and repeated the same answer.
Hmmmm makes one think.

I wouldn't say "more studios." I'd say "better studios." Let's be honest. BLU has three major movie players--Disney (the greatest force known to man), Fox and Sony.

Mix in WB for fun.

Right. There are more, but the fact is that this format could survive on Sony, Fox and Disney whereas HD DVD could not with Universal and Paramount.

So WB, lionsgate, et al are simply icing on a delicious cake.

If WB could be bought, the "game" would be at an end. HD DVD without WB titles would be like a wasteland.

MGM is owned by a group of investors (Sony has a rather large share and has the most influence, from what I've heard, since it is the only company in the group with a successful movie studio). Sony distributes the co-produced movies while Fox distributes the rest.

Best Buy and Blockbuster like Blu-ray because Blu goes well with their blue themed stores.

when I went to Futureshop during the BOGOF sale, I was told they were doing that only for disney titles, but I got 2 miramax titles as they were mixed it so I can only assume they are Disney.

Like many others in this thread, I work at BB, too. I've noticed for a while that the sections have been expanding, but even when the shelf space was even between the 2 formats, there were no less than 3 additional locations in my store (Harvey, LA) where you could find anywhere from 8 to 40 BD titles. That kind of flooding makes it easier to convince nervous customers to invest in BD (I work in HT and have recommended BD from the beginning).

Also, I noticed early last week (sorry for not mentioning it earlier, but I couldn't) that this week's ad features the Kubrick movies in HD, but the BDs almost completely cover the HD-DVDs. All that shows is the top portion of the red box. Seems symbolic somehow...

Blu-Ray is also outselling HD-DVD by a factor of at least 2 to 1, so at the retail level it makes sense to expand to make room for the bigger seller.
