Thumbs up World news: Latest Japanese data shows Blu-ray growing strongly, HD-DVD remains dead

Quote:
Impress Watch of Japan seems to have some kind of article which looks at the sales of Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats in Japan. They are reporting that Blu-ray is outselling HD-DVD by a huge ratio of 9:1, and the following data by GfK Japan shows how Blu-ray is growing while HD-DVD's consumption has remained at a constant low level with no real growth.

Yes but in Japan the Sony Minidisk was huge. Didn't take well in other countries.

However not the same with BR.

not surprising.... it's been like that (BD grows, HD DVD stable).
but this figure is a news.

GFK Japan: 9:1
Previously: Nikkei said 94.7% and 94.8%

Just what will it take for Toshiba to throw in the towel so we can enjoy one HD format and watch every movie on it? I really hope by this time next year this is all over and blu-ray is the only format available.

It's nice to see those figures but I think we're going to see the red guys around till you see those numbers in the U.S. market.

Toshiba has basically given up on every market but the U.S. They are throwing all their money at the U.S. because as the sole force behind HD DVD they simply don't have the resources to push it in multiple markets. After the situation with Payolamount they just can't afford tossing their money around in markets where they're getting crushed.
