My site just posted a new piece about the potential Disney short list for directors, as well as some opinion picks HERE.
But most of my personal picks aren't on there so I thought I'd see what everyone else thought too! Some of the people I'd be interested in for the new potential trilogy are: Ridley Scott -- obviously has a great sci-fi background and with movies like Gladiator and Legend shows he knows "epic" and "fantasy" as well Peter Jackson -- it'd never happen but the man does wonders with updating and expanding upon pre-existing concepts (see LOTR, King King) John Favreau -- he grew up around the originals and has consistently pushed farther and farther out of his own comfort zone successfully; from something small like Swingers up to the current run of Iron Man films. He even had voice work on SW: The Clone Wars! Danny Boyle -- If I had to make an odd choice, he'd be it. The man tends to make gorgeous films that meld music and visuals and though he hasn't done anything with grand effects, he has such a great catalog t hat I'd have to at least listen to his pitch. Jim Cameron --I'm not an Avatar fan at all, but at the very least, it serves to show that he is an awesome world-builder. With films like Aliens, The Abyss and Titanic, we know he can definitely work sci-fi and epic storytelling angles too. Those are off the top of my head, but I'd like to really sit around and think of a few more dark horses. So, how about you all? Who ya got? |
