Default difference between the s300 and s500?

I have the s300 and am wondering what the difference is between that and the s500...

The BDP-S500 adds Dolby TrueHD decoding and Bit Stream Output for DTS-HD1, Dolby TrueHD audio signals via HDMI ver 1.3 and a more rigid chassis.

Well I always say more power output and HDMI never hurt!

BUT
The BEST sound is very subjective, with many factors like your speakers and even the dimensions/acoustics of the room. So I wouldn't break the bank if you know what I mean.

Prob not to be honest. even if you do it will be minimal.
So prob won't justify spending all the extra money.

especially if your current receiver already has HDMI in/out.
really there are so many factors, all of which cost more money.

no, current receiver does NOT have HDMI... so that is really the question.. will upgrading to HDMI improve sound?

Also, currently running coax instead of HDMI for video... I am guessing I will see a big difference there?

In this case then YES I highly recommend getting a new receiver with multiple HDMI inputs, and you will most DEF see/hear a difference. Then you can take full advantage of the PQ/AQ your Blu-ray player has to offer.

When if first got my player I toggled between Component and HDMI and you can def see the difference. edges went from soft to sharp.

Unfortunately I made a bad decision on my receiver. I bought it so that I could use it with Blu ray later (this was a year ago and I couldnt afford 1500$ CAD for a player. Now I realize that it has HDMI but cannot decode. Additionally I though it was supposed to upconvert to HDMI but that was someones mistake on a forum... Either way I got a crappy receiver for HD. For SD its just fine though.

BTW its the Sony STR-800.

Well allot of people in here have been throwing around the Onkyo 805 and the 875. One has 3 HDMI inputs and the other has 4.

I also like the Sony STR-DA3300ES
HERE
7.1 and optimized for Blu-ray.
It is an ES model too, what Sony calls an "Elevated Standard".
Should be just under 1k too.

Since Best Buy does not sell Onkoys those would be out. If you want to go up a little higher in your pirce I would go for the Pioneer Elite 92.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1177718668551

It is $1299, but you can go to ebay and buy a 10% off coupon for around $1.50. And make the price $1169.

Why Best Buy are they the only store close to you?

That is a good reason. So if you check ebay you could get 12% then. I have the Pioneer 94 and it is a great reciever. The only differences for the 2 are a ethernet port, use, 10 more watts per channel, and 1 more HDMI.

I am guessing the Denon you are looking at is the 2308 it will not do DTS HD MA. You have to go up to the 2808 to get that. And I could not see buying a new receiver that could not do MA.

Not too sure about the HK's but is does not do MA either since it has 1.1 HDMI on it.

DTS HD MA is the lossless form of audio from DTS.
Most of the Fox titles are done with this audio.
http://www.dts.com/dts-hd/dts-on-bluray-and-hddvd.php

I would have suggested the pioneer elite 91 but it does not do it either. It starts with the 92. The cheapest route to get MA is with the Onkyos since the 605 will do it. But since you want BB that does not help you.

Guess I should point out your S300 will not send this audio this is more future proffing yourself for your next player. Based off what was linked earlier aobut the S500 EU version it sould be getting a upgrade to send MA bitstream

These boards are both good and bad places. Good you can find info. Bad in that you will spend more money.
