Default The Shining reviewed

Bracke's is the first I've seen posted yet. Pretty impressive that a notoriously crabby guy would give a 30-year-old catalog title 4.5 stars on PQ. They must have done a great job with this.

Apparently it's his favorite Kubrick (I think that's what he said).

I was waiting but it's looking safe now and I will be going at lunch today to get The Shining & 2001.

I was able to print out the webpage from Target and got The shining and 2001 for $18.95 at BB. I didn't think they were going to give it to me since I didn't even have a printout for 2001, but they pushed it through. I'm watching The Shining right now and the PQ looks great so far. I'm really happy with these BDs.

Default Grainy

Maybe there is something wrong with my television working with my BR player...BUT...I thought it was grainy and soft. It wasn't the revelation that I thought it would be...and I was kind of bummed.

Actually, all of BDs have been grainy.

I would think something is wrong with your setup if all your BDs are grainy. I just finished The Shining and I was very impressed. The picture is a bit soft but we all know the older movies can't compete in terms of PQ with some of the newer ones and this still has some simply beautiful scenes in PQ. There was one stutter issue in one of the scenes where Danny was envisioning the blood in the hallway, but it was like 1 or 2 seconds and it was only once...not sure if it was something in my setup or on the BD. All in all I think people will be impressed. Take a look at your setup and make sure everything is hooked up right...only trying to be helpful and not rude.

I put this in last night to watch a few scenes. At first I thought it looked very good for a 30-yr.-old movie, but not great. Then I popped in the full-frame DVD, and WOW!! At about the 34:10 mark, where it shows the hotel after saying "One Month Later," the old DVD looked like it was a crappy home video.
