Picking Up A Panasonic Plasma - Questions - Blu-ray Forum

I had plans on doing a Samsung but I do not like their new design. Looks cheap and that god awful green/blue light is terrible. Pioneer is just too damned expensive. Their prices keep going up and honestly, technology is changing so fast, I am not going to dump that much money into a tv. Sorry.

So I am gonna go with Panasonic. I have narrowed it down to 2 models.

TH-50PZ700U

or

TH-50PZ750U

The "50U" is the "Pro" model. As far as I can tell, there is only 1 extra HDMI port (on the front) and I don't think that is very convenient for hooking up permanent connections. There is 1 extra analog audio and you can play your SD card video on the TV. There is also 2 settings that mean nothing to me but might to someone else. They are ..

Pro Setting and Studio Ref. Mode. No clue what they are.

Is the pro really worth the extra 600 bux? I am leaning towards the regular model.

What says you all?

panasonic makes very good plasma displays. They have very good black level and picture quality. Hometheater magazine and sound and vision rate panasonic plasmas at the top for the past three years. That was before the pioneer kuro moniters started to come out.

Screw Pioneer. They may look better, but they are not worth the extra $2000.00 for it. No way in hell.

Panasonic 50" - $2100.00 and some change.
Pioneer 50" - $4100.00 and some change.

For what? Deeper blacks? Eh.. no thanks. I can see a little difference, but not enough to justify the cost. Besides, they have gone UP in price.

Ok, now I am even more confused..

I notice this model - TH-50PZ77U

Only thing different is the speaker setup. It has 2 compared to the 700U's 4. However it is showing up on Amazon as 100 bux more than the 700U. Ugh, what's the deal with that?

the 77u has a native res of 720p the 700u and 750u have a 1080 res not sure if it is p or i also the 750u has 3 component inputs and the 700u has 2

Now the real questions is: Are you sure you want to go with a plasma?

IF the answer is yes, then your only options are Pioneer (#1 in the world as far as quality is concerned) or Panasonic (#2 in the world in quality and #1 in the world as far as # of units sold). There is no third option as far as plasmas are concerned.

Now, as far as models are concerned:

The TH-50PZ77U comes very highly recommended by both professional reviewers and customers who purchased them.

according to circuit city's website is 1080P

I bought a my first Panasonic Plasma 42inch about 5 1/2 years ago used it for hour virtually everyday since and shes still kicking strong.

So I can highly recommend Panasonic to anyone.

BTW, don't think that only Pioneer makes expensive plasmas. Here are some pricy Panasonics as well:

Mind you, they are mostly 58" and above.

The majority of TV's on BB's website are LCD. Over 100 of them are. Approx. less than 30 are Plasma.

I would love an LCD for the fact that it uses less power. However, they are tons more expensive than Plasmas. I looked at the Sony 50" LCD's and they are up there.

Last I heard Sharp Aquos was the best LCD on the market. I am sure that has changed?

My limit is $2600.00 bux. I want 1080p minimum. LCD or Plasma - I don't care as long as it looks GREAT!

Panasonic makes awesome plasmas. Just make sure you pick one that has a native resolution of 1080p. The more pro models tend to have better speakers, but I am sure you have a nice receiver/sound setup and will probably never use them.

Make sure however to follow the Panasonic Plasma break-in procedure!!!

panasonic is the way to go. I returned the higher end 52" Sharp LCD for a Panny Plasma, and couldnt be happier. The 700 compared to the 750 is prolly not worth the difference. The extra HDMI port is on the front practically deeming it useless, and the extra picture settings in the menu prolly arent gonna help you much. I personally prefer the 700/750 panny series to the Sony XBR4 (which I consider the best LCD available) even when considering the 120FPS.

How do you think I ended up with the 65"? I went from a 42" (sold it) to a 52" Sharp LCD (returned it) to a 50" Panasonic Plasma (returned it) and I finally settled on my 65... now I cant get the idea of a 3chip DLP Front Projector out of my head.

Thank you very much for that. It's what I was looking for. Someone that was comparing the two

. Yeah, I don't fully understand the 3rd HDMI up front. Makes it pretty useless.

Have you checked whether or not the company you work for has an agreement with Panasonic?

I was able to get employee discount pricing with Panasonic thru my previous employer.

I can probably even look up wath the employee pricing is if your interested. What model are you looking at again?
