Compile Heart and Sting's collaborative game, Date A Live, is headed to the PlayStation 3. The news was confirmed via the game's official Twitter account a few hours ago.
Date A Live is based on a light novel series authored by Koshi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako.
Compile Heart are known primarily for their work on the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, Mugen Souls, Touch Shot! Love Application, Megazone 23: Aoi Garland, Rosario Vampire, Black Cat, Hell Girl, Record of Agarest War and Cross Edge. Meanwhile, Sting are recognized for games such as Baroque, Knights in the Nightmare, Riveria, Hexyz Force, Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection, Dokapon Kingdom, Yggdra Union and Gungnir.
Compile Heart and Sting are working on a PlayStation 3 game based on the Date A Live anime series. Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is a spirit capturing adventure game.
Date A Live: Rinne Utopia will have original date events designed by series writer Koshi Tachibana. Toka Yatogami, Kotori Itsuka, and Origami Tobiichi are confirmed to be in the game. Players will be able to see perfectly recreated scenes in the PS3 game. Date A Live: Rinne Utopia also has a brand new character named Rinne.
What's unclear about Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is how the game plays. Sting, maker of Hexyz Force and Ygddra Union, is listed as the developer and Sting usually designs games with unique gameplay systems like moving a wisp around to reanimate dead knights. Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is slated for release this summer.
The full title of Compile Heart and Sting's collaborative game was announced as Date-A-Live: Rinne Utopia, where you'll be taking part of a different kind of war… known as dating.
The main character, Shido Itsuka, is a young high school student with a supernatural ability of being able to seal spiritual powers in his body. There are mysterious girls who possess certain powers within their spirits, that cause a phenomena known as 'spacequake'. These spacequakes have been claiming the lives of millions of people around Eurasia, and it's up to Shido to stop them. The only way he can seal a seal their powers is by making them fall in love with him.
Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is going to feature all of the characters from Koshi Tachibana and Tsunako's light novel series, with an additional game exclusive character named Rinne Sonogami.
Rinne is a childhood friend of Shido's, who appears out of nowhere one day. “Good morning, Shido. I've been waiting for you… a long time.” were the first words she spoke upon their reunion. From that point on, she follows our spirit sealing hero on a daily basis. She has an easy going personality and often likes to meddle in Shido's affairs.
Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is slated to be released sometime in summer of 2013, for PlayStation 3.
