If you get a chance to go to AVS forum or Hidef its pretty funny listening to them say things like..."Ifit was'nt for the BOGO you would have got destroyed." or "If you didnt have the PS3 the war would be over." These people do not understand buisiness at all. BD did what they needed to do to win yet another week. Imagine the sales pitch to other companies when BD and Sony can say "We didnt lose 1 single week in sales ALL year!" The war is honestly on its last leg!

Toshiba pays $150 million dollars to try to win, Disney have probably not spend more than $1 million on the BOGO.
The Toshiba money went to the company Paramount with their CEO:s. The Disney money went to the Blu-ray customers, free for all to take advantage of. The Toshiba money did not gave the HD-DVD customers anything new, the Disney money gave the customers cheaper movies (and probably increased the money spend on Disney movies also.) The Toshiba money was bad publicity, the Disney money is good publicity. BDA can have atleast a 100-150 more BOGOs just like the one last week and still spend less money than Toshiba spend for Paramount to stop supporting Blu-ray. |

And from the retailer's standpoint. Toshiba/MS paid Paramount in effect to kill off a number of disc sales (in the case of Transformers, approx. 300,000 or so which would have moved on Blu-ray). Disney, by contrast, in effect paid off the consumer in a move which increased disc sales. If I were a retailer I'd be miffed that the HD-DVD camp cuts deals which are bad for my business.

"I think hddvd did very good....considering they put the blu catalog at buy one get one free...that really means half of 51%, so in reality it should be 75.5% for hd dvd, 25.5% blu...is that correct?"
I just had to post this when I found it at Avsforum, not willing to accept defeat at all. They actually think they are gaining ground on us! |
