Spiders 3D (2012)
SPIDERS centers on mutant spiders created by pieces of material from a disabled Soviet space station. With New York City threatened to be overrun, it's up to health inspector Rachel Cole to prevent the Queen Spider from uniting with her eggs and creating a full on army of five foot tall, killer spiders.

Release March 12, 2013 - Direct to 3DBR

Amazon 19.99 Pre-order

Soooooo...........

Anyone else kind of excited about this?

Looks like a fun flick, the 3d looks pretty good as well. I'll probably be preordering a copy here soon.

Here's a cool interview with the director, towards the bottom they ask him about shooting in 3d and he talks a little about the everyday duties. Good news though I took from it is that the movie was actually shot in 3d, not converted. In a separate interview it was said the CGI took over a year to develop. Not too shabby considering this thing was funded on a budget that matches that of a direct to TV movie.

I didn't catch it at first but this is directed by Tibor Takács, definitely well known. He's also behind a lot of the goofy / fun Sy-fy cheesy monster movies.

That was enough to sell me, I'll pre-order next payday

Thanks for the news JSmith82. This looks promising and pre-order is 19.99 last time I checked at amazon.

Reminds me of the giant spiders from the 360 game Earth Defense Force 2017.

Jsmith,

Were you able to check this one out yet? I saw it in Best Buy today for 16.99 in 3D if I wasn't mistaken. I read somewhere the 3D wasn't up to par, but not sure how true it is since this was said to be filmed in 3D.

saw this a few weeks ago. not terrible, but not as fun as it could've or should've been. the acting was atrocious and the story is pretty bland for a giant spider movie. the effects were great - the cgi was much better than your typical syfy fare, but the 3d was just average.

worth seeing if you're into the genre, but a lot of wasted potential.

Howdy!

Not yet, we're going to watch it tonight though and I'll share my thoughts. With movie from this director, and in 3d, and based on super spiders from outer space.. One must get the in proper frame of mind to enjoy (beers!). So I held off for a viewing tonight.

I pulled the trigger!

I really enjoyed this on Bluray. I thought the CGI is good (notch above those SYFY CGIs). The story is entertaining and have moments of thrills. Shot in native 3D so that is a big plus for collecting it for me.

Just watched Spiders this evening. Other than one hyperstereo shot of Manhattan I'd say this is has the most insipid 3D of any natively shot film that I've seen. I can't think of any post-converted films from the last several years that have worse 3D; Spiders, for me, is a great example of how native doesn't equal good. Still, if you love a giant spider...

The 3D does not impress, true, but those spiders look so much worse in 2D...

Ha ha! I can't imagine sitting through this film in 2D (can't really imagine watching it in 3D again if I'm honest). If I'm being generous, some of the less giant spiders in long shots didn't look too awful and, overall, the film had a reasonable look (for a cheapie), but the humourless script and performances were its biggest downfall (along with the mostly poor 3D).

So this business of one camera picking up reflections that the other is not, what did the camera people do wrong when they were shooting this and how is this issue avoided on other natively shot movies? I understand what is happening but I'm wondering how could they have prevented it.

Watched it last night. I give this a rating of 4.25.

Quality of Depth 5/5. Great depth.

Quality of Pops 3/5. Not much pops. A shattering scene in the beginning had a great pop but the rest of the few ones ljust popped average to below average distance.

Quality of Layering 4/5. Above average feel of 3D throughout.

Quality of Ghosting Minimization 5/5. Very few and far between ghosting. An example of scene with ghosting is when the couple were in stairs and went down and as they walked through the corridor to exit the building, there is ghosting, more apparent on the woman's legs. English Subtitles have zero ghosting.
