Default Which premium channel has the more promising 2013. Showtime or HBO?

For years I always thought HBO was superior in terms of original programming Now it seems Showtime is Kicking HBOs ass. Fall 2012 went to Showtime as well, with a return to glory season of Dexter, and another good year from Homeland. Boardwalk Empire had a nice season, with some really amazing scenes from Gyp, but the season still had quite a bit of filler story wise.

Of course, March 31st starts Game of Thrones S3. Expecting nothing less than a 10/10 season like the first season was.

Very curious about another season of Newsroom this summer. As I really enjoyed the first season. Olivia Munn really surprised me in it.

And then in the fall again Boardwalk has its final season, as with Dexter (supposedly) Homeland comes back to in late September.

But people that have both, How are House of Lies, Californication, and Shameless stacking up against Girls and Enlightened so far?
Of course I didn't mention every single show on there. If you had to have one of the two right now for 2013. Hbo or Showtime?

HBO because of Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.

HBO.

I like a few Showtime series, but other than Dexter (where I'm seasons behind) and Californication (where I'm up to date), I don't currently watch them. I need to check out Homeland soon.

HBO would win on these alone: Game Of Thrones, The Newsroom, True Blood, Girls

Just starting Boardwalk Empire.

That's a tough one....

HBO:
Game of Thrones
The Newsroom
Boardwalk Empire
Girls
True Blood

Showtime:
Homeland
Dexter
Shameless
Californication
House of Lies

It's tough. I think I would compare the top 4 on Showtime favorably to the top 4 on HBO. Since I got a Roku for Christmas, I think HBO GO puts HBO over the top for me. Already watched through Oz and starting on The Sopranos now.

Currently, the two best shows on either network are Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. I don't think the second season of Homeland compares to either of them, and Dexter hasn't been the same since the fourth season.

I don't know Shameless Californication, or Newsroom, but I'll start getting into them. I'm among those who feel that Girls is bland and boring.

This is not the final season of Boardwalk Empire, and Dexter returns June 30th, not in the fall.

I wonder if they made the move to try and compete with The Newsroom.

House of Lies - about the same as season 1. I never thought it was an amazing show, just something to pass 30 minutes with. Good cast, interesting topics but if it was canceled I wouldnt be sad or anything

Shameless - Fantastic, incredible, etc. Of course there are a few issues now and again, but this is easily one of the best dramas currently on TV and has potential of being of all-time depending on the future of the show. Season 3 is just as awesome as the past.

Girls - different tone than season 1. Only 3 episodes have aired so far, so who knows what is to come. Season 2 isn't bad by any means, and from previews of future episodes, it looks like the season 1 magic may be returning soon

If you like Californication, there is a 99% chance that you would enjoy House of Lies.

Showtime has two new shows starting, one in June and the other in September. They separated Dexter and Homeland to air with the new ones to help ratings.

I'd go with Showtime because of Dexter, Shameless, Nurse Jackie, Homeland and The Big C. I'm not caught up with Boardwalk Empire, and the only other three I watch on HBO is Girls, Game of Thrones and True Blood. Girls is the only one I really love now.

If I had to pick the top 3 shows on each channel, it would go like this...

HBO:
Game of Thrones
Boardwalk Empire
Eastbound and Down

Showtime:
Homeland
Shameless
The Borgias

Even if HBO only had one series and that series was called Game of Thrones, HBO would get my vote.
