Question Firmware Update Samsumg 1400 on Mac

I just got the Samsung BD-P1400 and need to get the firmware update but am having trouble downloading it via eathernet. I'm on a Mac connected to the internet via the Apple Express.

My immediate thought was to just go to samsung.com and download the firmware and burn to disc, but it appears that's only availabe for Windows machines.

I've unplugged my eathernet from the Apple Extreme and plugged it directly into the Blu-ray player. But each time I try to get the update I'm told to check the Network settings. I've changed the IP and Subnet Mask to the info I found in System Prefrences on the Mac but is that the right thing to do since the eathernet cable isn't connected to the Mac?

What am I doing wrong?

You shouldn't have to set anything to a dynamic ip or anything unless you know for a fact thats how you set up your network. I am assuming there should be an option for DHCP. If there is just use that and it should connect to the internet and get your update downloaded. I hope this helps you with your problem

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Kaliraver:
There is an option for DHCP. But it's all zeros on the blu-ray menu and I have no idea where to find out what to fill in there. Any further suggestions?

WickyWoo:
I downloaded the update. It has a .iso extension. I burned this file to a CD and put it in the blu-ray player, but nothing happend. So I figured I had to restart the player with the update disc installed. When it started back up there were some screen flashes and the screen ultimately settled on the menu. I checked the system info and saw that I still had the original frimware. Huh. Any ideas?

I appreciate all the help guys. Sorry if I am a bit dense. I'm not that much of a techie and this is my first blu-ray player.

OK I finally got the download CD to work. The issue was how I was burning it. Initially I just made a burn folder and dragged the downloaded file to it and burned. Apparently there is a special way to burn an ISO file to CD on Mac. MacOSHints had the procedure that worked for me.

1. Insert a blank disc.
2. Start Disk Utility.
3. From the File menu, choose Open Disk Image and select the ISO to be burned.
4. In the list of volumes, you will now see an item representing the ISO file. Select it.
5. Click the Burn button and follow the instructions.

After that it was as simple as placing the update CD in the Blu-ray tray and waiting for it to update. The player scanned the disc for about 10 minutes then updated for another 10. Now I'm all up to date and ready to rock n rolll and can take my tiem learning how to do this through eathernet which I'd guess is much simpler.

OK, I finally got the download disc I burned to work.

My problem was after downloading the firware update from Samsung's website, I couldn't get the disc I burned to be recognized by the player.

What I had done was made a burn folder and dragged the downloaded file to it and burned that. Apparently there is a special way to burn an ISO file to CD on Mac. MacOSHints had the procedure that worked for me.

1. Insert a blank disc.

Now I'm all up to date and and can take my time learning how to do this through eathernet which I'd guess is much simpler.

Thanks for ideas and help guys!
