Default Zulu Dawn March 12th

Don't know how I almost missed this upcoming release, but I just happened to notice it today. Darn that day is going to be expensive with all of the Disney movies coming out was well, but I just may to jump on this one as well. I've been waiting a long time for it to be released on blu.

Given Severin's track record it will be MPEG-2 and DD 2.0. As much as I like this one I'll wait for less than $10.

Yeah, $24.99 is pricey. I may wait for a price drop, but will definitely get it eventually.

This would be the 3rd time the release date has shifted. The original street date was Jan. 8, then it was pushed back to early February. For some reason I don't think this will come out next month . I'm a big proponent of "don't announce anything until it's set in stone".

I didn't know it had been postponed in the past, but March 12th is the current pre-order date Amazon is listing.

Amazon has shifted the release date from Jan to Feb and now to March. I have had the pre-order waiting since December. Also, ImportCds has finally added it to their website, which they had not done previously for the Jan and Feb release dates. This could finally be the month

This is a great film, the events portrayed take place at the same time as Rorke's Drift, the action shown in the movie Zulu. In fact, the opening scene of Zulu is the story told in Zulu Dawn.

I love this film but I would wait for reviews. Severin sucks.

Yep, it happened in the morning and the Battle of Rorke's Drift happened that afternoon, evening, and into the next day.

I highly recommend the book The Washing of the Spears by Donald Morris. It is a highly readable account of the rise of the Zulu nation, its wars of conquest under Shaka Zulu and his successors, the coming of the Dutch settlers and later the British, the Great Trek of the Boers out of the Cape Colony and their subsequent encounters with the Zulus, and how and why the British-Zulu War of 1879 was fought. Basically, the British wanted to unite South Africa into a single confederation, including the two Boer republics the Orange Free State and the Transvaal. But to accomplish this, the British colonial governeor felt something had to be done about the Zulu nation, the most powerful native kingdom in southern Africa and a truly formidable force.

The Battles of Isandhlwana (depicted in Zulu Dawn) and Rorke's Drift (depicted in Zulu) are described in riveting, edge-of-your-seat detail. I guarantee you won't be able to put the book down. The main British army crossed the Buffalo River at Rorke's Drift into Zulu territory in January 1879. leaving behind a garrison at the mission station. The Zulu army split on its approach to the British camp at Isandhlwana. One wing headed past the camp and made their way to the Buffalo River to Rorke's Drift to destroy the garrision there and cut off the escape route of the British camp, while the main wing of the Zulu impis assaulted the camp.

Zulu Dawn is a terrific film. Let's hope Severin does it justice, even if we are likely to get an MPEG-2 transfer.

Sounds like my kind of book. I've been wanting to check out the miniseries on Shaka Zulu for awhile now too. Maybe it will be on blu eventually.

I get the "feeling" that this release will be a DNR fest. I'd advise people to wait for reviews before ordering.

From my rather limited french, I see the euro version (region B) on Filmedia has been getting slaughtered on french amazon, much like the british army in the movie !! Of course, doesn't help that it's natural to compare the transfer with the terrific job Paramount did with Zulu....
