Default MESSIAH OF EVIL blu-ray from Code Red

This is technically still a rumor, but a very reliable source has confirmed that Code Red is working on a blu ray release of Messiah of Evil for 2013! This is one of the most wonderfully bizarre and overlooked horror movies of the 70's...can't wait! Hopefully Code Red will enter the blu ray market with a title like this or Just Before Dawn instead of Electric Chair/Nailgun Massacre.

Give me Messiah of Evil over Electric Chair/Nail Gun Massacre any day - Messiah, unlike those other two, is actually a pretty good film! What it lacks in narrative coherence it makes up for in atmosphere and creepiness. A Blu-ray would be great.

There's a very interesting chapter on Messiah in Stephen Thrower's exhaustive, essential Nightmare USA book.

Would love to own this on blu-ray.

Not to sound like a cheapskate, but I hope Code Red keeps the price reasonable. I'm guessing it'll be $29.99 + shipping? I doubt I'd be willing to pay more than $19.99, unfortunately.

I haven't really bought from them since they started selling direct, just because their prices are so high for DVDs. I did make an exception for Ghost Keeper though.

I'll definitely be getting this. Love the movie and Code Red did a great job on the Dvd.

not yet, but they were only announced a few months ago as TBA 2013. The original plan was to start with Electric Chair and Nailgun Massacre but I have a feeling that may not be the case anymore..

how is Ghost Keeper? I've been a click away from ordering that a few times now, but 20 plus shipping is a lot to pay for a blind buy of a total obscurity. I've heard some so-so things about it, but I dig canadian horror and deep winter settings...

I would love this! I've never found a nice quality version of it. Hope it happens and has a decent transfer. Such a weird movie.

This is news to me - and Bill hasn't mentioned MESSIAH OF EVIL to me or others at the only forum he visits. Folks there, me included, have made it know we'd love to see it in HD, though.

Latarnia. Yeah, Damon does do work for Bill. So...maybe it's so?

EDIT: ok, found the discussion. Odd, never saw it and I don't get notifications even though I'm part of the group. Any how, I hope it's true. MoE is one of the best CR discs.

That'd be fantastic news, a genuinely good spooky horror film from Code Red's blu-ray line. I absolutely love horror films where the entire town is essentially haunted to some degree.

It's great that Bill is embracing the high-def format - can't wait to get my hands of that remastered version of Just Before Dawn on Blu - but I really hope he refrains of announcing too many titles until he releases his first one. I'd hate to get all excited only for the bubble to burst if it doesn't go well. He's got quite a lineup coming up, plus I'd like to see some of the earlier titles hit the format. Good luck to him.

I love Canadian horror and deep winter settings as well, and I really enjoyed it. It's very moody and atmospheric, but it may be a bit too slow for many people.

The price is a little high, so it's tough to recommend. But the plus is that the transfer is really good. It looks a little rough around the reel changes, but I doubt it has ever looked better (or ever will). From a technical standpoint, it's a great disc.

The movie is not for everyone, but if you like moody late 70s / early 80s horror, it's worth a try.

Hopefully this rumor is true. I think Messiah of Evil is a lot better of a leader for them to test the high definition market with than Electric Chair (or even Nail Gun Massacre). If I recall correctly the DVD was sourced from a high definition master / restoration so I don't imagine Code Red would have to lavish too many resources into making a worthy blu-ray.
