I don't really know which one to buy. In terms of 3D crosstalk, sharpness and detail enhancement, which is the best for a 150inch 16:9 1.0 gain screen? The crosstalk threads on the Panasonic are scaring me.. Panasonic AE8000 is out of my price range.
I sit 12 feet away (1.1x) from the screen. Screendoor Effect is something else I'm worried about. THose who have Epsons and Panasonics, is convergence a problem? EDIT: I meant to type Sony HW50. Can a mod please change it in the title? |

If SDE is a concern, I would expect LCOS or SXRD, like the Sony, would be better than LCD from Epson of Panny. The model is a few years old, but I've got a Sony now and sitting around 1x screen width away, SDE is not an issue for a 1080p display with a 1080p signal. That said, it's time to upgrade myself, and I think I'll being going back to DLP. I'm somewhat sensitive to rainbows, but LCD has it's own color persistence artifact. I can't see buying another LCD based projector, if the image is going to yellow at only 5,000 hours, considering, from what I've been told, they design these things where, to fix it, they have to replace the entire optical block, rather than just the bad panel itself, making it more affordable to buy a new unit than get it fixed. I suspect I'll miss the colors of LCD, but DLP produces better clarity and better ansi contrast, which are worthy tradeoffs. Think I'll go the cheap route though - sub $2000 - until the 4k market matures, so the trick will be finding a model with some measure of reliability and a color-wheel that isn't too distractingly loud. Might take some looking to find one that isn't a light cannon too. Unless it has a much darker low-lamp mode, 2000 lumens is a bit much for my high gain screen.

Epson - Brightest picture if you can't control all the light in the room, also good for 3D due to the brightness. JVC - Best 2D picture & contrast, best choice if light is 100% controlled. Also the best choice if you want a scope screen with motorized lens memory function. Sony - Better at 3D than the JVC but not as bright as the Epson. A perfect choice if you want good performance for 2D & 3D but don't want a scope screen. |
