Default 1080I vs 1080P

Just a quick question and also looking for suggestions from anybody. All my tv's will display 1080i, I have all Samsung BDP1000 and BDP 1400's. 2 of each. My question is, is there a huge difference between the 1080i and 1080P and if so, I was thinking about looking for a new tv that does 1080P for my main movie room. Any good suggestions on a good 1080P set? Not looking to spend 5000 or anything.
my main tv for movies is a Pioneer Plasma 5070, should I just keep that?

thanks in advance

Double the resolution for 1080p over 1080i... Spend the extra and go with 1080p..... Its what the BLUS are recorded in so why not see FULL HD !

I really don't think going to 1080p is worth the thousands you would spend to achieve that if you already have a high-def tv that is somewhat current.

Would you replace a Pioneer 5070 with a Panasonic TH-50PZ700U just to have the 1080P ?? Or do you have any other suggestions as far as 1080P tv's?

1080i, 1080p... they aren't anything but names.

I just (2 weeks ago) moved up to 1080p from 1080i, the truth was, the old 1080i set wasn't really 1080i at all, the native resolution of the set was only 768 or some such... so it would down convert a 1080 signal, and up convert a 720 signal. (Sony KW60WE610)

Changed to a DLP set, the Mitsu WD73733 with "true 1080p"

Truth be told, the picture on the DLP set is a bit "softer" than on the Sony LCD Projection... however... the Sony did have a bit a problem with SDE.

What I am trying to say is that it is a hell of a lot more about how it looks and not so much about just the numbers.

IMHO, if you have a 50 inch plasma at 1080i... stick with that till you are ready to increase the size after prices come down in the next couple of years, I really don't think you will see that much of a difference shifting to 1080p, if you see any difference at all.

Then get the TV I have from Costco right now for $2500. I don't know if it is available nationally but we have several of them in stores in WA. I love it and it's pretty damn big. If you have Sammys already then you know what you should expect. The new ones are LED which means no more lamps to burn up and more "pure" light for the picture. After all, it's the mirrors.

Default any brand 1080p is better than an excellent looking1080i?

I'm talking about displays. I sincerely feel that 1080p discplays are only worth for displays that are bigger than 50", but I'm wondering whether any 42" 1080p tv display, even from a chep-looking brand would look better than a good-looking display when compared both in situ I can hardly see any difference.

Am I correct? Where I live , for example, there is a sony 40" lcd for the same price of a 46" sharp lcd and a cheaper aoc 50" plasma (all of them are 1366x768). Which is the best deal?

Lots of benefit to be had from displays that do take and display 24p natively and by coincidence those displays tend to support 1080p as well. I'm holding out for the new SXRD 70" to replace my current 70"

its like going from 480i to 480p , 1080i vs 1080p you can see the difference's if your 12 or so inches away(& closer for sure), with 1080p you can actually see the screen more "filled in" if that makes any since but only from very close, & I have the 2 HDTV, & PS3's & doubles of pirates 1 & flags to test this

I agree with some of the posters, 1080p is better on paper more than in real life. It's just drawing the same picture top to bottom instead of even then odd lines twice as fast. I can settle for 1080i, but my next tv will be 1080p if I can help it.

Not if it's LCOS, such as Sony SXRD - they are at least as "sharp" as any plasma or LCD.

Default 1080p

Display text from a computer, internet, etc and you will know the difference between 720p, 1080i and 1080p real fast. There is nothing like full 1080p.

Yeah if you are doubling your TV as a computer monitor then 1080p is a must. 720p resolution sucks for even a 20-22" computer monitor. I run the second output of my Mac out to my tv for anime video, computer browsing from the couch, and games and 720p would not even be worth hooking up.
