United Kingdom Do you buy 'Rental Copies'?

I used to do it all the time in the days of DVD, but there's something great about opening a Blu from its seal. But my local Blockbuster is closing down and I picked up a few of the more recent titles for way less than I would've got them from retail. 3 really bothering things, though; the 'Rental Copy' banner across the top on most releases (I think Momentum and EiV are the only ones that don't do this), the removal of special features (on Fox releases) and a plain white disc with black text (Warner releases).

It all just looks really horrible and cheap, which is why I avoided them before now. Like I said, though, I couldn't pass up on the bargains considering it's the film that matters most at the end of the day.

What's everyone else's opinion on this?

They have a whiff of "nicked from a rental shop" about them.

No i never buy rental blu-rays. I do not like the stickers they usually put on the artwork like the name of the movie centre that rented it, what kind of genre it is etc. Also is the state of the artwork or disc usually not that great if it has been rented a lot of times.

No, not really - I tend to try and avoid them because the rental banner at the top really puts me off. Plus, they tend to some damage to the cases and/or sticker marks all over them.

I'll consider it if they're still sealed or mint ones that occasionally pop-up on eBay, though.

I have loads, it was a great cheap way to start my blu collection when I was young and poorer. Less so over the years.

My local Blockbuster was also closing down so I did one last raid and picked all these up for £20. I'm not complaining. Film first, packaging second.

Blockbuster in Aus only has a small sticker around the centre ring of the disk. It comes off very easily. I sometimes will buy them when they are selling the excess new releases titles after a few weeks. The cases are in new condition (they don't rent out them for new releases) and disks have had a scratch remover applied. Doesn't bother me because you can't tell they are second hand. Saying that though only one of my Blu-Rays is ex rental, a lot of my old DVDs were ex rental.

I don't like scratched discs. Even the removal of fingerprints makes my face ache.

If the film plays OK, I really don't have a problem.
I've bought a lot of blu-rays used, and a good few ex-rentals. Ironically the only time I've ever had problems with discs not playing, when its been down to encoding errors on sealed blu-rays

I ordered 4 from the BlockBuster offer and I'll see how they go. I'm not a big 2nd hand film buyer I don't mind games or music but for some reason I've never liked buying used movies.

I'll probably put the BD's I get in with the DVD cases and bin the cases if they're well-worn but I'll wait and see.

I have bought a few blind buy's on-line that were 'love film' rentals, they were advertised as in very good condition so I don't have a problem with it.

Never for me, not a fan of the big red strip RENTAL COPY and the R on the spine.

They just feel a bit cheap and nasty in my eyes.

I've bought plenty on 2nd hand blu's and DVDs from CEX as long as the amaray and plastic are mint and I get the disc cleamed if the slightest scratch.
But rental seems very different like 1000 people have handled them?

Guess I'm a disc snob? Just want clean items in my collection, would be different if I watch a film once and sell or chuck away, use as costers etc

I think I have 2.. they were very cheap and movies that are probably one time views so it doesn't bother me too much.

I do try to avoid them though.. been difficult with the Blockbuster sale!

I don't buy ex-rental blu-rays, I buy a lot of second hand ones (Amazon market place, Play Traders etc.). I used to buy ex-rental VHS just because I preferred the bigger boxes they came in I still have the original Star Wars trilogy in the bigger 'rental' boxes.
