DayZ coming to PS4

When I approached the topic of DayZ coming to consoles, Hall admitted that despite a lot of speculation, nobody had really posed the question to him in a straightforward manner. After I took the opportunity to do so, he revealed that while a console version of the title isn't currently in development, there's nothing keeping it from happening in the future.

"Certainly I think if we don't, for want of a better word '**** up,' the PC release then I would say a console port is almost certain," Hall revealed. "I know a lot of people get really hot and bothered about it. Like, I'm not a console gamer, I'm a PC gamer, but I don't think it necessarily has to hurt things."

But what consoles would be likely to see a DayZ title in the future? At the moment it seems like the PS4 may be the leading candidate. "It appears to be the kind of game that Sony are interested in, I think we just have to wait and see," he continued. "We've talked and met with Sony, and they're very - you know, they're obviously interested."

Console port is "almost certain" and they've already talked with Sony about it. Sounds like its definitely going to be on PS4.

I enjoy watching the game play and stuff but hate playing it myself, it's awful... Arma sucks, lol.

It's all the rage on PC gaming.

It's an open sandbox with a very large map, bunch of players dropped with very few resources ("I would shoot you but I can't afford to lose a bullet" ...), and using the Arma2 physics/ gameplay (as realistic as possible, including blood loss, hypothermia, bone fracture, you have to find food too...).

You have to survive/ scavenge in an environment where not only other players are a constant threat (it's open PvP, but you can also cooperate), but Zombies are roaming and they can be attracted to movement, and sound.

Death is permanent, no respawn (unless you restart from scratch).

There are a few "safe zones" though.
I've been pondering trying it, but it's probably a little too "hardcore" to my taste, I like to enjoy my games instead of being abused by them

The very successful survival-horror game DayZ is coming to PlayStation 4, it was confirmed today during Sony's Gamescom press conference.

Creator Dean Hall took to the stage during Sony's event in Germany to make the announcement. Little about this version of the game was revealed; there was no release date mentioned, and given the lack of the word "exclusive" being mentioned, it sounds as if it may also come to Xbox One.

Hall said developer Bohemia Interactive is "acutely aware of how important the PC version is to us." He noted the studio "didn't want to just port DayZ" to consoles, but wants to take advantage of each platform's respective strengths. He didn't provide any further detail about what that will mean for the console versions of the game.

This isn't the first time the prospect of DayZ for consoles has been brought up. When Hall discussed the idea earlier this year, he said he had spoken to Microsoft about bringing it to Xbox One, but that he had yet to do the same with Sony for PS4--a situation that's obviously changed since then.

It looks like althought somewhat similar DayZ and H1Z1 will also be quite different.

DayZ is pure schadenfreude PvP in very large maps, wherehas it seems like H1Z1 will be very coop harvesting / building bases oriented.

So Dayz more PvP (the original DayZ has rather scarce population of Zombies it seems, and is very heavy on survival against other players and elements), while H1Z1 probably more co-op/ Pve oriented (but still apparently some PvP).
