Default The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977)

The Kentucky Fried Movie Blu-ray

Quote:
From very humble beginnings comes the cult classic, The Kentucky Fried Movie.

The film started as a theater project called The Kentucky Fried Theater which brothers David & Jerry Zucker and their childhood friend Jim Abrahams (Airplane!, Top Secret!, The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad!) started in Madison, Wisconsin and then moved to Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles the guys met producer Robert K. Weiss. The foursome eventually hooked up with director John Landis (Animal House, Blues Brothers, Trading Places) and the group began their quest to get this movie made.

As a series of skits, sketches and vignettes the movie has no formal plot structure and falls in the category of "go-for-broke" kind of screen comedy. One of the first of its kind, the movie functions as sort of American version of Monty Python's Flying Circus' And Now For Something Completely Different. The movie also serves as an introduction to the kind of comedy producer Lorne Micheals would bring to television a short time later with "Saturday Night Live." In other words some parts work and are flat-out funny, while others fall flat on their face. But in the tradition of the movies that would follow from the team of Zucker, Zucker and Abrahams, otherwise known as ZAZ, if you don't like one bit, just stick around because another bit will start up quickly afterwards.

The stunt man bit is probably both the most racist and most funniest scene I have ever seen!

This release might seem totally out of the blue for Shout, but then, I'm a Gemini, and have learned how to expect the unexpected.

Awesome news! The old Anchor Bay DVD looked pretty rough, so hopefully the transfer will be much-improved!

And the capital of Nebraska is Lincoln!!!

Phew did a cow S#*t in here?

I'll wait for reviews, I can't see this kind of movie seeing much of an a/v improvement on Blu Ray

probably the funniest skit movie ever
hopefully Anchor Bay also puts out Max Dugan Returns, 29th Streets, Turk 182, and Modern Problems

I have never seen it. Is it as funny as Airplane, or The Naked Gun?

I love those films.

Fair Warning: It will forever spoil Enter The Dragon for you.

Wow. This is the surprise release of the year for me. Right up there with Swamp Thing. Go Shout!

It's made by the same guys that created Airplane, if you get past the fact its made in the late 70's and has some (by today's standards) fairly racist skits, it is a gut busting funny ass movie.

I owned the Anchor Bay release, it was very rough. I probably watch this film at least once or twice a year, I love introducing it to people that have never seen it before.

It is part of the movie, the movie itself is a collection of various skits, some are fairly short, while others (Fist Full of Yen), take up a larger chunk of the movie. It spoofs multiple genres (porn movies, asian martial arts films, 50's high school science films, etc).

Those of us that grew up or lived through the 70's and were exposed to the kinds of things that the movie spoofs will probably find this even funnier. Although it in no way diminishes the enjoyment of someone who did not.

Oh man, I hope they carry over at least the audio commentary from the DVD. IMHO, it's one of the funniest tracks ever recorded.
