Default Toshiba and M$ = Confusion

I went back and saw the first Apple commercial titled 1984 and I swear the rhetoric from the Microsoft and now Toshiba still holds true today. Here is text of what the tyrant says and here is link for those who have never seen the video.

1984
Today, we celebrate the first glorious anniversary of the Information Purification Directives. We have created, for the first time in all history, a garden of pure ideology. Where each worker may bloom secure from the pests of contradictory and confusing truths. Our Unification of Thoughts is more powerful a weapon than any fleet or army on earth. We are one people, with one will, one resolve, one cause. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death and we will bury them with their own confusion. We shall prevail!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=z9PQ16KVntQ

It was true back then and it still true today, they still try to confuse the consumer that they're garbage is good.

Microsoft thievery was rooted in Apple. Bill Gates worked for Apple before starting MS. He essentially stole Apple's operating system, made it worse, then launched a gigantic ad campaign based on bs.

Bill Gates was in college when he formed Microsoft, how could he work for Apple? I don't argue that the OS was copied though.

Where on earth do you get your facts from?

Bill Gates has never worked for apple.

As far as stealing, look up the whole XEROX affair. Jobs stole the GUI from XEROX. So Bill and Steve stole from XEROX?

Good lord, people say anything on the net.

Read the history books young buck!

yup, izzy is correct. the theft, which wasn't even theft since xerox gave it up was from xerox. Most of the facts are that Bill Gates just believed in stuff others didn't and ran with it.

There are 2 things we know for fact. 1 is that Gates stole OS from Mac. 2 His stuff is and will always be pure trash.

Whats the first thing you have to do when you buy a M$ system, back it up and virus protection. Two things not needed with a Mac

watch the movie pirates of silicon valley, it's a drama that is accurate from what I can tell showing the paths Bill Gates and Microsoft took as well as Steve Jobs and Apple, it's really quite interesting to watch, they even show what Xerox did

Sorry, there was no stealing of Xerox's ideas from Apple. Jobs saw the first GUI (Smalltalk) on the Alto system while visiting Xerox's PARC in 1979. He was interested enough in the idea of GUI to pay Xerox in Apple stock so that he and his engineers could have a closer look at the system. He ended up hiring some of the Xerox engineers, and Apple then modified LISA based upon ideas that they saw at Xerox, but with significant differences such that the two are not the same. LISA then ended up being the first PC with a GUI but unfortunately did not do well. These concepts were later translated to the first Mac, and the rest is history.

Did you think that Xerox was just thinking "oh, they're just here to look" when Jobs gave them a substantial payout to closely analyze the system (which was a prototype at the time)? On top of that, there are major differences between what Xerox eventually came up with and what Apple came up with. Was Jobs inspired by Xerox's ideas? Yup. Did he "steal" anything from Xerox. Nope. Did Bill Gates "steal" anything from Apple. Take a look at early versions of Windows in comparison to the Mac OS and come up with your own conclusions.

Historically, look at what Gates and Microsoft has done. 86-DOS, Windows, Internet Explorer, XBox, Zune, etc. Are there any original ideas here? Or did they simply leverage their huge amount of cash resources to take over (or at least attempt to) somebody else's idea so that they could make more money? I think the answer is clear. Microsoft ≠ innovation.

Bill Gates' company which consisted of him and a hand full of employees was contracted by Apple to create a BASIC language interpreter for the Apple II. Later, they were asked to make a graphical office suite for the Macintosh which was still in development. Apple gave them an early prototype to work on which they took back with them to Redmond. Not only did MSFT create what later became known as MS Office on the mac first but they also took the opportunity to reverse engineer the windowing system.

Prior to that, MSFT had already picked up an Apple Lisa to examine.

Apple paid Xerox with Apple stock to gain access to the Xerox Parc research facility because Xerox did not value the idea of GUIs at the time. Apple later hired some of the engineers there to work on the mac UI and further advance concepts from Xerox. This meme must die. Apple paid Xerox and Xerox did not understand the value of the IP at the time.

Xerox tried and failed to get more money from Apple years later through the courts.

MSFT never had to go to Xerox since they already had access to Apple's stuff.

Do you even know why MSFT agreed to a renewing cycle of 5 year commitments to develop MS Office for the mac in 1997? What about the multi-million dollar non-voting stock purchase? What about the multi-year patent cross-licensing agreement? A dying Apple computers got their largest competitor to not only invest in their company but they agreed to develop software and gave Apple access to MSFT's IP. Why would MSFT do all of this?

It was all part of a settlement several lawsuits involving GUI patent infringement and copyright infringement on the part of MSFT. MSFT had been caught stealing quicktime code which they incorporated in their product that became known as Media Player and later Windows media player. There were also rumors that some other Apple code had found its way into windows.

Heck if you have a copy of XP, go look at some of the icon resources and other graphic resource in the main windows DLLs and you might be surprised what you find. I found a number of graphics from different versions of Mac OS and even OS X using Reshacker.

Maybe you should read up on your history young buck.

It may be pure trash compared to a mac but this just proves the public is dumb when it comes to cheaper prices and advertising.

My info came from a University Professor who headed the computer science dept. Sorry if I tend to believe him more than some anonymous forum poster.
Excellent posts Aristotles, and Brain Sturgeon, I couldn't have said it any better so I won't even try.
