Default PLEASE explain Audio Codec Decoding !!!

Would someone 'who knows' please provide answers to these questions:

1. If a Blu-Ray Player does the decoding for these advanced audio codecs, and travels bitstream via HDMI 1.3 . . . does the Pre-Amp or Receiver need also have these audio codec decoders? or do they simply amplify the incoming signal?

2. If the Pre-Amp or Receiver have all the advanced codec decoders in it and is HDMI 1.3 compliant, then the Blu-Ray player only need be HDMI 1.3 compliant, and send the audio via bitsream to the pre-amp or receiver. Is this correct?

If I'm missing something here, please explain, in terms we all can understand.

Thanks,

Jim

1. If the player does the decoding you only need a receiver that is HDMI 1.1 compliant.

2. If you send the bitstream over HDMI you need a 1.3 reciever that does the decoding (like the Onkyo 605/805).

edit: moweeis, you just beat me to it :-)

1. The receiver simply amplifies it.

2. For advanced codec support you need a player that not only is 1.3 compliant, but also passes the audio codecs over it. HDMI 1.3 is no guarantee of this.
