Default Denon 3800CI Blu-Ray Price Drop!?

Just saw this ad in The Perfect Vision online magazine:

Boy, I sure hope this is not a misprint!

I hope it's not a misprint either. I am a big fan of Denon's DVD players, so I'm seriously considering this as my next BD player.

However, the $1200 was the price of the Denon DVD-2500BT when they originally announced them, and that makes me a little skeptical of the price quoted in this article. I think the author may have gotten the prices mixed up.

I love the Sony ad "Once upon a time, Sony created the best way to watch movies. The end."

I personally don't want to replace my $3500 Denon 4806 receiver in order to save a few hundred bucks on a BD player. The prospect of 7.1 analog out, Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD/MA in-player decoding, and Denon quality is an attractive package.

Has anybody heard anything about a possible release date for this player? It's the stand-alone that I've been waiting for. It will be nice to get my PS3 back into my living room for some Guitar Hero III

The prevailing theory is that this is, indeed, a pricing mixup between the 2500 and 3800. At $1200, I'd buy one in a heartbeat (and may do so anyway!).

Unofficial, "I talked to my Denon rep" reports still indicate this year for the US release.

Probably so....but, I wouldn't be surprised if the price has dropped considerably.
When you take a look at their competition in this market and what the new players have feature-wise....

Is that you, Oink? I'd no idea you were here!

Nothing would please me more than such a price drop; I've had my eye on this player since the announcement. Time to start calling dealers...

Ditto. You can see they're being a lot more pointed with their ads these days. Have you seen the new PS3 ad campaign? It's incredible!

Here's what I was told this AM: One of the local dealers did hear from the Denon rep last week that the price may have been reduced i.e. maybe that $1199 price is now correct. He believes the player will be here mid-late Nov. and he'll call me when he's got the unit or better info. Hopefully, he's got his facts and data straight...

I'll post here with developments.

I'm hopeful, although the original Denon news release stated $1999. My local dealer thought it was a misprint as well.

Yup, it's me.

Like my sig. says, just another refugee.
I still post over there, but not much in the BD Forums; it is just too frustrating for someone like me.
I don't mind being on the front lines...if the game is being refereed fairly.
Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case.

I prefer to involve myself in a BD forum for ENTHUSIASTS.

The new Panny sounds like a killer.
I have an Integra 9.8 pre/pro coming very soon.
It can decode ALL of the new formats over HDMI 1.3.
Sounds like the BD30 is a perfect fit for me.

I have the BD10 now and can't say enough good things about it.
It has been flawless, never a hiccup...it just plays and plays.
However, the BD30 has at least 2 things my BD10 can't do: 1080/24p and bitstreaming DTS-MA.
Some of my favorite movies are from Fox, which is why decoding MA is very important.

Still, I haven't seen a Realta in action yet.
It might be too hard to pass up...particularly if BOTH BDs and DVDs will be processed by this chip in the Denon.

According to the original specs in the press release, the 3800 will decode both True HD and DTS-HD MA to PCM and send it over HDMI.

The 2500 will only pass them as a bitstream.
