HOME RUN is a Christian movie that is being released on the Blu-ray format on July 23rd 2013 (Released in movie theaters April 19th 2013). It is available for pre-order from several Christian retailers and Christian websites. However for secular stores and websites HOME RUN is currently a Walmart Exclusive. Amazon and other secular websites might offer HOME RUN on Blu-ray after the Walmart Exclusive agreement expires.

Baseball all-star Cory Brand knows what it takes to win in the big leagues. But off the field, with memories of his past haunting him, his life is spiraling out of control. Walmart currently offers free (home) shipping on Home Run as a pre-order. I assume that the free shipping is only good through 07/23, or maybe a day or two earlier.

Yes, your correct Walmart is currently offering free home shipping on the Home Run pre-order (+ sales tax). This is a Walmart and Christian retailer exclusive until October 8th 2013. Then on October 8th 2013 the Home Run Blu-ray will be released to Amazon and all other secular retailers.

I enjoyed watching this Home Run Christian movie on Blu-ray, including all the extra features. This post will just be a brief user review of the Home Run Blu-ray. I found the Home Run review at this link an enjoyable read.

Home Run is rated PG-13 and is a low budget Christian movie. Estimated budget is 1.2 million dollars. Box Office sells are over 2.8 million dollars. Home Run is more than just a baseball movie. This Home Run movie was filmed in the Bible belt in Tulsa Oklahoma and other areas of Oklahoma. Even though this Home Run movie is a fictional Christian movie, it is a very realistic Christian movie. This movie shows both Christians and non-Christians with addictions that millions of people struggle with. In the movie the Christian 12-step recover program focuses on people with drinking addictions, drug addictions, porn addictions, and many other problems in life. The Home Run movie preaches a message that Jesus Christ can help one overcome any immoral addictions in life.

This Blu-ray is a single layer with a total of 21.4GB used out of 25GB. Home Run uses the MPEG-4/AVC codec at 1080P quality. Video bit rate appeared to average around 20Mbps for some scenes in the movie with peaks in the 24Mbps-26Mbps+ range. This movie was shot with RED ONE cameras and overall the movie had an average video quality. Certain scenes at around 17Mbps appeared a little soft and lacking in detail, however overall the movie had good resolution detail and natural color quality. If a dual layer Blu-ray disc would have been used then a higher video bit rate would have offered even better video quality. The option to turn on English SDH subtitles and Spanish subtitles exists for those that need to use subtitles.

*** Audio comments ***

Home Run has both a lossless 5.1 Dolby TrueHD English soundtrack and a lossy 256K 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo soundtrack. The standard stereo 2.0 Dolby Digital soundtrack is for those that only have a stereo system instead of a surround sound system. Overall I found the lossless 5.1 Dolby TrueHD English soundtrack mix to be below average compared to many secular lossless audio soundtracks. Home Run does make use of the surround speakers once and awhile and most of the movie soundtrack comes from the front speakers which is fine for this type of movie. However, this Home Run movie does not make use of the subwoofer at all. The surround sound mix is more like a 5.0 soundtrack since my subwoofer never engaged for any scenes while watching the movie. Overall I was happy with the so called 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack except for the lack of no subwoofer activity. Dialogue voice quality was very easy to understand.

*** Extras ***

The only extra features that is in 1080P MPEG-4/AVC quality with 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo is the previews. The movie trailer to the Christian movie Home Run and other secular movie trailers are offered under the preview menu selection (all trailers are 1080P MPEG-4/AVC quality with 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo). All the other extra features are 480i MPEG-2 SD quality with 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo. I found the small amount of extra features enjoyable to watch. I was disappointed that no HD quality extras were offered (except for the movie preview trailers which are all HD). I am a big fan of audio commentary tracks, however Home Run has no audio commentary track. On the positive side at least there are some extra features, some low budget Christian and secular movies offer no extra features at all.

Home Run was an enjoyable fictional Christian movie that has a storyline that is very realistic since it shows Christians with all kinds of real life problems. The Home Run movie has a message that everyone either has a negative or a positive effect on the people that they meet every day. This movie is ideal for both Christian families and secular families that like to see people in the process of overcoming immoral addictions in life. The Gospel message of salvation and seeing people set free from sinful lifestyles is one of the positive messages of Home Run.
