Default Steelbook Newbie Question

Alright guys, I am a noob to steelbooks and I have a question about protecting them. I am about to purchase poly bags off of eBay to store my steelbook collection in. Now, do collectors usually take off the original plastic and then store them or do you put the steelbook with original plastic into the polybag? Dumb question I know but I want to store and show off my steelies the right way.

-Thanks again!!

If they have the original plastic on I wouldn't worry much about putting even more plastic over that. I also wouldn't take the original plastic off if you intend to resell at a future date as a brand new item.

Beyond that, one of the best suggestions I've heard (and haven't been able to implement yet) is if you don't wrap opened Steelbooks in covers, simply line your Blu-ray shelf(ves) with some kind of microfiber cloth so that when you slide the Steelbooks off or on the shelf, the bottom edges don't scrape.

Sounds like a good idea and thanks for the reply. I was looking on youtube and I noticed a lot of collections were polybagged so I don't know if these folks double plastic their steelies or just leave the originals on.

If you handle with care it's not necessary to make your steelbook collection look like a grandma's preserved couch. To each his own I guess. Contrary to that ridiculous poll in the other thread, you might want to grandma any digibooks because those are not durable.

Man that's to funny lol. And my grandma did have a couch with a ton of plastic on it, I remember sticking to it in the summertime. I guess double plastic would be to much.

Depending on the J card/slip or any other info card you might not be able to fit a wrapped steel into a poly bag anyway. Mine are perfectly tight with just the steelbook. Besides, with the original wrapper on your essentially covering half of the steelbooks glory.

Thanks everyone for the non sarcastic help, that is why I love this web site

Me thinks I may be overthinking this whole thing. If it comes with plastic, I shall leave it on, if not, then slip it in a polybag. Simple

Bingo. I'd only double wrap in plastic if the original plastic was torn to begin with, especially if it was torn on the bottom or a large section of the sides where the most scraping is likely to occur. Tearing at the top is almost not worth caring about unless you stack Steelbooks on top of each other vertically (does anyone do this?...).

Polybags look terrible though.

You want the plastic shells - they cost more but if you value your collection, they are totally worth it.

Lol same here. Good luck in all your steelbook endeavors. It can be a bumpy ride with the occasional disappointment but there's nothing like a great steel if you're collecting them.
