Doctor Who Blu-ray

I was wondering if we were ever going to get the first 4 seasons on blu-ray... Guess we are

If they do not release the seasons separately along with this complete season release there are going to be some pretty pissed off people on here...

I thought series 1-4 were filmed on standard definition video and not on film, hmmm... I just hope they release them individually, I just have series 1 on DVD, but I have all the other blu-ray releases of Doctor Who at this time!

They were definitely shot in standard definition. IIRC, some of the later Tennant specials were shot in HD but the actual show didn't move to HD until Series 5.

You are correct! I own the David Tennant Specials on blu-ray and apparently "The Next Doctor" (Episode in the David Tennant Specials) was still filmed in standard definition, it wasn't until "Planet of the Dead" that they switched to HD, so basically we can expect the same quality of picture that "The Next Doctor" has for series 1-4.

This. Prior to Planet of the Dead, the new series of the show was shot in standard definition. The Next Doctor (the Tennant special shot in SD) was upconverted on the Blu-Ray release. Series 1 through 4 would all have to be upconverted as well.

As much as I'd like to upgrade all my DVDs to Blu-Ray, the fact that the first four seasons would be upconverts, along with the fact that I've already got Series 5 and 6 (and have been waiting for the full release of Series 7), makes it that much less appealing.

Yeah, I have Series 1 on DVD, I was wanting to get series 2-4 on DVD, but they have been super expensive! And like you, I have The Specials, Series 5 and 6 on blu-ray and I'm looking forward in getting Series 7, I wouldn't mind them releasing 1-4 individually since I only have series 1 on DVD but I guess we will just have to see!

At this price tag, works out to be $45 a season. That's not even taking the sonic screwdriver into account. Plus at that price, it's only 10% off.

Same boat. 1-4 were taped in SD albeit (I'm guessing) PAL SD so there's some SD+ available but it can't be all that much more. Still, Tennant's upverted early specials look pretty good on BD. Perhaps that's what they've done?

$45 a piece isn't too bad, especially how much the DVD sets are, however I got both the 5th and 6th series on blu-ray for $20 a piece and got the Tennant Specials on blu-ray for $30, but this set can be very appealing to those who haven't collected any of the series yet! Glad to see all the Whovians on here talking about this! "Allons-y!!"

I think that's exactly what they have done! Again, if they release them individually, I may just pick them up over the DVDs, unless if the DVDs go down in price

Would like to have this but couldn't pay more than $110

1-4 are presented in SD through all streaming services, including Netflix.
