Default BestBuy Comments

I was just at BestBuy loading up on some movies. I walked by the TV's as I always do and came across a couple probably 50ish who were discussing with a salesmen Blu vs HD.

I listened for a bit, the salesmen was pretty neutral. So I continued to the movie section. I laughed because I noticed some fellow Blu lovers must of been in the store today.

In the HD-DVD section there was multiple Blu discs sitting in front. I chose not to move them and let them be. So as I was picking up my movies and that couple came by, so I figured I'd give them a little Blu education. After a few examples I gave them as to why Blu will win, and why to go Blu the husband says to me.

"Blu-Ray must be confident that they'll win considering their prices for players are 3 times the cost of HD-DVD"

So I replied, "You could say that, but Tosihba just lowered the price of their HD-DVD players to $99. With a format war going on, and it still being a new technology on the market what does that tell you?"

His wife summed it up perfectly "It tells me they are desperate and probably losing" I nodded my head. So I pointed them to our site here to get a list of movies available, and to read up on Blu. They thanked me, and went on their way. So hopefully we'll have 2 new Blu members to the family.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

That was a good response. Here in Atlanta that same couple would have said," Why are you talking to me?" or "Do you work here...no...then you probably don't know what you are talking about". You must live in a nice and friendly part of the country. Atlanta is becoming a yuppie city FAST and the attitude that comes w/ it!!!!!!

I'm in Canada. I walked up to them and said "Excuse me, but I over heard that you are interested in either Blu-Ray or HD." I went from there.

Same thing happened to me at Walmart in Alberta, Canada. There was an old couple looking at the Blu-Ray display at the same time as me. I didn't approach them though they came to me and asked: "Hi, do you buy these movies a lot?", and we went from there. The guy said he'd check it out and I said excellent.

I also pointed out HD DVD to them because and listed as many pros and cons of each. I don't want them to make an uneducated buy that would completely defeat the purpose. We know we chose the better format so we don't need to resort to cheap tricks and taking advantage of consumers.

A very similar situation happened to me at my local Best Buy today. A couple about the same age were talking to a BB salesperson. I offered my opinion, backed up by facts. The BB salesman was a dud-boy. I was only able to stop a dud sale. They are going to wait until after the first of the year to see what happens. Come on Warner and Universal.

It's okay not to care. Not everyone has the same interests as us. Maybe he just needed a job and knew what he needed to to work there.

Every time I go to BB / Magnolia to take my b/f diner I hang around the blu display areas and talk to people watching that display. I tell them all kinda stuff

One line thats has worked wonders is "Damn I hate Blu-ray" they ask you do?
I tell them yes I hate them, since we bought our blu players we haven't been able to watch anymore dvd's because the image just can't compare to the image you see on blu.

I laugh and tell them I was content watching out focus movies before we bought our player now we can only watch blu. It also helps I am girl I guess.

Nice to have more blu members. Most of the local people around here already know the differences between blu-ray and hd-dvd though.

I tried that strategy on my parents, they still don't get it. My father says that BD looks the same as DVD. So I have tried to get them on board, but they just don't get it.

Do they wear glasses? Unless you have good vision, it can be hard to tell. My wife can barely tell the difference between SD and HD on DirecTV, which just blows me away. But she almost never wears her glasses.

Cool

I work for Firedog (Circuit City Home delivery team)...and when I'm hooking up customers tv (especially when hooking up 1080p tvs and all they have hooked up is a VCR ) I always ask them have they considered purchasing a blu ray player or hd-dud player...and when they have kids (any family that does is an avid fan of disney) I tell them the hd-dvd is more used for upconversion since the majority of major studios is backing blu ray...I don't really know any pros with the hd-dvds besides affordability...I also stress blus expected longevity and quality vs. hd-dvds...especially after the announcement of a triple layer hd-dvd that has yet to be confirmed as absolutely compatiable with all past players...

No, but they probably should, lol. Well without my contacts I can't see the difference in Hi-Def and Standard Def. unless I put my nose up to the screen. I need to get Lasik

I Have Done The Same Kind Of Thing, Specially When The Sales Person Is Just Trying To Make A Sale. I Educate The People Who Are Curious And Try To Show Them The Benefits Of Blu, I Still Tell Them About Hd, But Also Explain Why They R Trying To Offer So Much To People To Try And Get Support. My Gf Also Does The Same Thing U Do Mystiksuicide, And It Always Seems To Work More, Go Figure. Lol

Don't they know that people that DO work at BestBuy are the ones that have NO clue what they are talking about? They should be happy that some educated customer informs them about how things really are.
