After Drive, I was really looking forward to this but I haven't heard too many good things about it. I'll probably still pick it up though...

Drive is my second fave of all time, and I loved all of NWR's previous films.
But this was painfully self indulgent

It's nothing like Drive in story terms, but I really enjoyed it. Loved reading up all the interpretations that viewers posted online afterwards too.

Will pick this up, maybe not day one though.

I haven't seen many films at the cinema this year and most of those that I have seen have varied between slightly disappointing and can I have those two and a half hours of my life back please, but this was worth the effort. Divisive and not an easy watch but I found it highly rewarding and I expect it to build a following on disc.

Saw this on opening day, and like Drive back in 2011, I can't get it out of my head. After a terrible summer season, this film arrives and it is a mesmerizing jolt to the senses. The surrealist tone of the film is juxtaposed with the disciplined craftsmanship that is on display here. Seriously this film has the surrealism of David Lynch, along with the craftsmanship of Stanley Kubrick. This is hardly surprising since the DoP of this film, Larry Smith, also fulfilled the same duties on Kubrick's swansong Eyes Wide Shut

A true masterpiece that I hope one day will be re-evaluated. As for the blu-ray, its a day one purchase for me. Don't know when this film will be released in the U.K. but if the French BD, which is being released on the 2nd October, has English subtitles, I'm purchasing that for sure.

It had a story? I thought it had karaoke and women hating combined with glances and incest.
I just saw it as one of those films that has noting to say like Enter The Void but since it does not people go in and fill the gaps mentally and declare it a masterpiece

Nay thanks!

I may pick it up because of it's dark atmosphere and fantastic look, but I was very much underwhelmed and really felt like a hollow film, it's not as restrained and constructed as Drive or the other NWR films I've seen and just feels very indulgent.

According to BVA (British Video Association) this will be out on Nov 25.

BTW - There'll be a 3D version releasing in Germany!

For pity's sake! First of all I hate 3D (I know its a strong word, but yes I hate 3D) and secondly the film is filled with dark spaces and dark colours, and since brightness is generally lowered for 3D, wouldn't a 3D version make the film unwatchable?

I know... still it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

November is too far away. Will probably pickup the Nordic release in October. Unless the US release is region free.

Do people who compare this to Drive also compare Taxi Driver to The King of Comedy?

My favourite film this year, so far. Wish it would get the steelbook treatment or at least have a nice slipcover. Regardless, will be buying it day 1 .

I don't compare this to Drive at all, but are you saying Taxi Driver isn't comparable to The King of Comedy? I think they're pretty similar to the point where I feel like they're companion pieces.

That is actually a valid comparison and has been talked about at length

Dave Kehr of the Chicago Reader gave the film a favorable review, calling the film, "clearly an extension of Taxi Driver" and the "uncenteredness of the film is irritating, though it's irritating in an ambitious, risk-taking way"

It certainly is I wasn't being sarcastic with my original post.

Poor wording on my part!
