Default The Earthling (1980) Anyone else know about this great film?

http://www.amazon.com/Earthling-Will.../dp/6303490980

Never made it to DVD, so far only a VHS (and iirc beta too) tape a long time ago. Any insiders know whats the deal with this old gem?

I know it's not DieHard 4 or anything, but some of us older guys Like some of the older stuff too.

It looks like Dist rights are held by a company called Roadshow home video, never heard of em, but it looks like they haven't done anything since 98. Anyone know who may own rights to this film now so i could petition them for atleast a DVD?

that was a good movie actually, very good acting job by young Schroeder and of course William Holden was great.

I've never seen it outside of our old family collection of VHS.

Well if BD can deliver "Fireplace" to a home theater near you, this should have been released yesterday. I really wish the studios would give a fair shake to some of the lesser, but much enjoyed titles that are out there.

Unfortunately cult classics don't always see a release on BD. Take for example Ghostbusters, this would probably sell a ton of copies, but Sony doesn't seem to think so. There are a lot of older catalog titles we all like to have, but for right now they aren't seen as big money makers. Hell if you look at all the classic Disney titles, like Herbie, Escape/Return To Witch Mountain, Pete's Dragon, etc., or MGM classics, these would sell quite a few copies. Until there is a winner declared I don't think most of the major studios are willing to risk sales with these older titles.

You mean like "Fireplace" for example?
Or the "Salt water Fish Tank" BD?

I was just looking around and noticed that a new VHS of this movie sells for like $45

That's crazy. Apparently, it was released in 2001 by a company called "Good Times Video".

They might be the best to contact.

I'm not sure how my mom has a copy on VHS, probably recorded it off of TV.

2001 Version of the VHS:

If you buy it from a bidding site, make sure its a used video store (SP) copy. Good Times is an EP company. Terrible quality.

Yea, not interested in buying it. I can just take my mom's VHS copy and put it on DVD.

She still has close to 450 VHS tapes , most with at least 2 movies on them, all cataloged and in a bookcase in an upstairs room.

Charlie the lonesome Cougar. Classic! Great old Disney narration. The same voice who did Me myself and Irene. The star of the movie was Charlie. Funny stuff.

Yea, it has David Niven in it and Jodie Foster.

I liked it as a kid. I think it came out in the late 70's.

Wow this is an old thread but I just found it and had to comment. I think The Earthling was one of the best family films ever made. Not only that, the song sung at the end by Maureen McGovern is one of her best songs. I worked as a radio DJ and kept 12 of the promotional 45rpm's of the theme, which ended up never being released. It's great!

I'd love this on Blu-ray.....but it never even made it to DVD, what a shame.
