John Carpenter's The Thing

I was watching it last night and I noticed that the preview clips displayed during the Universal menu for any special effect shot is much brighter then the said same scenes played during the film itself. For example: as apart of the preview clips on the Blu-Ray main menu they show bits and pieces of the Dog-Thing and of Split-Face, both those scenes are much darker when hitting play and watching the actual film on the Blu-Ray. Has anyone realized this? Are the preview clips just pumped up in brightness/contrast just to make the menu design more eye catching or something?

It can't be my picture mode settings because they are perfect for everything else, and besides with the same picture settings, the previews clips vs the actual scenes when playing the film are clearly different.
