Default Thinking of going region-free for the first time...

I apologize in advance for sounding like a total newbie...

...but I currently have a PS3 for playing Blu-Rays. I don't have a fancy home theater setup. Lately, I've been thinking about selling the PS3 and getting a region-free BR player.

This one was mentioned in another thread:
http://www.bombayelectronics.com/Son...o_bdps5100.htm

Anything I should know? I assume everything should work right out of the box. On the other thread, someone mentioned not performing firmware upgrades, though this particular dealer insists it doesn't matter.

(Of course, if the PS3 could be programmed to play all-region, that'd be great but I'll understand if we can't talk about that here.)

You should be good to go! Greatest decision you'll ever make! And yeah, I wouldn't be too quick to update firmware regardless of what the deal said. Just leave it alone and have a back-up Blu-ray player if, for some reason, a Blu-ray doesn't work on the region-free one.

Which imports you planning to first pick up once you get the region-free player?

I've seriously been considering adding one to my setup too. What made you decide on that model? I've looked at that one from 220-Electronics, but also the LG BP325. But, then there's the option of just getting a cheaper model for non-Region A flix and keeping my current Panny connected. In all honesty, it's been my indecision on a model that's kept me from getting one so far.

I could use a push!

I haven't decided 100% on anything. The gentleman who mentioned that particular Sony model in the other thread seems to like it. And I'd rather sell my PS3 and put the money towards this purchase, as opposed to keeping two players. (And my TV only has two HDMI ports anyway.)

I've had my eye on some Arrow titles, including Lifeforce. And on their Facebook page, they linked to the video production company currently working on extras for The 'Burbs.

Need I say more?
