United Kingdom Arrow & Terry Gilliam Need Your Help.

Arrow Films are embarking on an ambitious project to reclaim Walerian Borowczyk as one of the great names in world cinema. They plan on releasing a box set including 5 of his feature films and 14 of his short films next spring. Plans at the moment are to include all of this in HD, apart from one feature, Goto, Island of Love which is currently only available in SD. But with your help, a new restoration can be undertaken and we can get Goto in HD as well:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...2/restore-goto

Terry Gilliam, heavily influenced by Walerian Borowczyk, is backing the project. Pledges start at as little as £1, though £20 will get you a copy of the single Goto, Island of Love Blu-ray, whilst £60 will get you the 4 disc Blu-ray, 7 disc DVD box set itself (plus £3 for non-UK delivery). For those interested in such things, James White will be handling the restoration work and David Mackenzie the Encoding.

For those with little to no interest in the films themselves, or those who are not region B capable, a donation towards the restoration of film classics in general may be something you'd like to consider. I'm sure most here would like to see future Kickstarter style projects to help get unknown or under appreciated classics the recognition they deserve.

When I get paid I actually might pledge £20 - I wasn't going to because I wasn't familiar with the filmmaker or films, but then again there was a point in my life when I wasn't familiar with Jan Svankmajer, Jiri Trnka, the Brothers Quay, or personal heroes of mine like Len Lye (particularly), Norman McLaren or Stan Brakhage. As much as I'd like to see any of their work restored, if anyone's a hero of Gilliam's then they deserve the respect and their films should be restored. The short bits they showed look great.

Well said sir. It would I hope be great if more projects like this were to follow, even if we have never seen or heard of the films being put forward it helps with the restoration of film that might otherwise never be given this opportunity.

You can pledge now if you like. No one is charged anything until the Kickstarter ends on January 11th, even if they surpass their goal before then.

Though if you think this might be something you'd buy eventually, you might want to consider a £60 pledge so you get a free copy of the boxset. It'll be more expensive than that on general release.

Already pledged. £60 is a no-brainer for me. I would buy the set anyway, even though I'm unfamiliar with the directors early works. Having lavish restorations of obscure work is the reason I buy disks.

Just a quick question, I noticed that the current amount of backers is at 328, but when adding up each group of pledges the number is 313. What's the go there?

^Perhaps there's an option for custom pledge amounts, which are not counted in any of the groups?

Oh that's it , custom pledges that are not taking any reward for their contribution.

I'm sure there's also an option to show support without pledging any money, but the difference is probably the people who have pledged less than £20

Just £102 to go to reach its goal! I think this may well be the day it crosses the line, which bodes well considering the campaign is barely half way through.

Still, being based on Stendhal, I'm very curious about this one... Does anyone know which is the best home video release of it?

OK, that's news. A small project update would be nice, though.

UP! So what's new?

So, street date June 30th.

Btw, still no update on the Kickstarter page since January 12, 2014.
Maybe it'd be appreciated for all those who participated to have some news.

Then again, I can only imagine some people not checking forums and waiting for an official update on the original page dedicated to this project, ie Kickstarter.
