South Korea Aachi & Ssipak- March 11- Animated Korean Sci-fi Toilet Comedy

So for those who haven't heard of Aachi and Ssipak and want an explanation of the thread title here's the synopsis as it appears on Amazon:

Quote:

Aachi and Ssipak are street hoodlums who struggle to survive by trading black market Juicybars. Through a chain of events involving their porn-director acquaintance Jimmy the Freak, they meet wannabe-actress Beautiful, whose defecations are rewarded by exceptional quantities of Juicybars. For that reason, Beautiful is also wanted by the violent blue mutants known as the Diaper Gang, the police, and others.
This was not one I expected to see stateside, but there it was when I glanced over the newest pre-orders. Awhile back I bought a Thai DVD of this film. Korean movies have been mostly good to me, but I had seen few animated flicks and the premise of this one was too much to pass up.

Turned out quite enjoyable. It seems to be on the verge of being a cautionary tale about depleting our natural resources, but that's just a goof. It's all spectacle. Lot's of over-the-top sci-fi action, comedy, some sex and feces. Uh, maybe that's not the best sales pitch.

According to Amazon it's being released by New Video Group, but when I Googled the company it brought me to Cinedigm's website which had no mention of Aachi and Ssipak. That's all the info I have. Let us know if you have any more information.

^It was a fun movie and the action was spectacular. Not too sure of repeat value though, how many times can you take poop jokes? No, don't answer that

I just found out about this for the first time on another site. I watched some clips and I love the design of the film, and the animation and other production values look pretty top-notch too.

It looks fun and silly, but I can't say that the premise is very... appealing. How much gross-out humor is in this thing? Honestly, it's not really my thing.

So I'm a little conflicted here... Would I like it?

years since I watched it. it's something you'll have to see to find out if it tips over from funny to tasteless.

very nicely animated, certainly different.

Finally on BD, if someone has it (US or Canada) please review the specs on this site. I have the Australian DVD that is superb, but would love an exact (not cut), in HD quality.

Received today.

BD25, AVC encoding. English DTS-HD-MA 5.1 ONLY. English subs for the hard of hearing. Extras consist of a single trailer for the English language version.

Running time: 1:22:13

I have the Korean DVD on my laptop and it runs 1:27:47

So, yes. Cut and dubbed and a new score, (which is mixed too high, IMO).

There are scenes that have either been removed, (Jimmy being fed Juicy Pops), or shortened for no reason, or what seems like political correctness. (baby getting fitted with chip implant).

Oh and it's region free.

Dammit! I can't believe it's cut and lacking the original audio.

When I saw it was coming out on Blu-ray I (foolishly) ordered it without ever considering either of those possibilities. Normally I always wait until I know the specs on any R1 release of an Asian film because I know how poorly some companies treat their releases. But somehow it never occurred to me with this film. I was so surprised and excited that it was getting released at all, that I guess I assumed that if anyone was releasing this film it would surely be in it's original version.

Dammit! Did I say that already?

It'll be here in a few days. I'm not even going to open it. It's going right up for auction on eBay.

That is extremely disappointing.

Dammit, now I'm extremely interested in this, but I'm not buying an edited film. The dubbing wouldn't be an automatic deal breaker, but the censorship is.
