Default Star Trek: Boldly Going 50 years.....

For those 'trekkies' & 'trekkers' out there you are well aware that 2016 marks the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek.
Speculation and rumors are making there warp speed rounds on the net that include the obvious:

Star Trek 3.0
A possible new television series
and this post from Facebook's Star Trek V Director's Cut petition:

https://www.facebook.com/StarTrekV.DirectorsCut

Rumor has that Paramount will re-release the 10 Star Trek movies on Blu-Ray, featuring TOS and TNG, during the 50th anniversary with new extras and new directors editions. What do you think of this possibility ?

--- I say bring it on Paramount!
fans will love to have The Motion Picture & Wrath of Kahn Director's Cut's and yes give Shatner his chance do to The Final Frontier as he originally envisioned. Plus there has to be a wealth of stuff to supply each film.

and in the words of Capt. Picard, "Make it so"

They should release every version of each film on blu-ray. They should have done this with the 1st release but they want to milk it.

This is why you wait. With the 50th looming, no matter what they come out on BD, you wait.

Should be interesting to see what they re-release.

They really need to release the Director's Cuts of ALL the Star Trek films on Blu-ray. I would purchase those in a New York minute. That's also why I passed on the initial release of the films to begin with. Are you listening Paramount? There are a lot of people like me waiting for the DC's and will gladly pay top dollar for them.

I just hope for the movies on Blu-ray in better quality. Not this old master DNR crap that's available now.

Maybe also take the chance to re-release Star Trek Into Darkness with Imax aspect ratio, directors commentary, deleted scenes, and ALL it's originally intended featurettes.

I don't care about getting new extras or the 'Director's Editions' or whatever, I just want to see these films remastered properly. Hell, release them as bare bones versions and I'll keep the old Blu-rays and SE DVDs.

Could definitely see that as well for the 50th Anniversary.

My guess is we will get a lame new Star Trek movie and maybe a special for tv. I am not sure about the new series - Star Trek and CBS don't have the best history together. I can see a re-release of the movies on bluray but I don't think it will be a new transfer or anything. Could be wrong but considering they have released them twice in a set and individually now and still use the dvd transfer, I don't see them spending the money on that or on alternate cuts. Personally that is what I would like to see released for the 50th - director's edition of TMP, extended tv version of TMP, tv version/director's cut of Wrath of Khan(they are pretty much the same), extended cut of Undiscovered Country, and original version of Generations, Insurrection and Nemesis as there was tons of stuff cut from those. Would be nice if they also included the deleted scenes for the movies as there are tons of scenes that were cut and not included on any set so far. But without a series on tv, it is hard to do stuff. Look at Doctor Who - thier 50th was big but others like the 40th weren't because there wasn't a series around.

Absolutely! The DNR is so heavy on these (sans Khan, of course) it's hard to watch these.

Don't kill me... but I'm hoping that Paramount will eventually re-do the special FX for the early films using a mix of CGI and raw film elements. I've re-watched all the films recently, and the first five films just don't hold up well in HD. Quite frankly, the effects for the remastered TNG TV show look better than the effects for the first five TOS films.

I'm also bugged by the rampant use of old stock footage throughout the TOS films. With CGI, those issues can be fixed.

I think Paramount should offer both a CGI enhanced version and an original unaltered version on Blu-ray. They can use a branching format like they did for the TOS TV series on Blu-ray.

I have said that too - a remastered effect would look great even without the cgi. Given that they still have a lot of stuff from TNG, you would hope these effects are still saved somewhere but I don't know - maybe ILM just delievered the finished product. I think the cost is what is going to prevent this - Paramount likes to do things on the cheap when it comes to Trek.

But the cost to do the Episodes is far more.
And Paramount knows that we will buy nearly anything Trek...
[Show spoiler]Look at Star Trek Into Darkness

Sorry, couldn't resist...

Shouldn't speculation on something that may or may not be released three years from now go in the Wishlist forum? Just sayin'...

This belongs in the Wish List area. Having said that, I welcome a new TV series, but if they do it, I would prefer they go back to the old universe. You know, when Vulcan was still a planet and before all the re-imagining. There are still so many possibilities there.

Yeah, I came into this thread expecting actual news of some sort, not wishful thinking and speculation.

This isn't the right forum for a speculative thread like this.
