Default The Legend Of Hercules Movie/Who Is Your Favorite Hercules Actor?

Any have some thoughts on how this movie will turn out? I understand why they cast some pretty boy with muscles but my favorite Hercules is the one from Jason & The Argonauts (Harryhausen) followed by Steve Reeves. Nigel Green is my pick because he plays the character like he is in the Greek stories which is a flawed, head strong person who's earthly taste gets him into trouble that he is truly remorseful for later on . Green played the short role well. Also because he has a more down to earth look (average guy).

This makes me think of Samson from the book of Judges in the Bible. I'll bet he wasn't muscle bound at all as it is man who looks at the outward appearances but God looks at the heart of a person.

As a grad student whose studies focus primarily on Mythology, I'm extremely wary of this movie. It looks too much like Spartacus on Starz. In the myths, Hercules (or Herakles) is incredible. He fights the entire Amazonian nation basically with his bare hands and sometimes a club. He fights Hydras, and skins mythical lions. In the movie, he barely seems any different from a typical soldier.

Obviously, I need to see the movie before condemning it, but I'm afraid it's going to be like the new Clash of the Titans or Troy. Instead of trying so harf to modernize these stories, they should adopt their ancient spirit. They can still be gruesome, and "edgy," without sacrificing their intelligence.

You're right, he does look more like Samson than Hercules.

As to the actor, I did like Steve Reeves. Lou Ferrigno certainly looked the part.

I thought Troy was good. Not entirely sure what they altered mythology-wise, but ignorance is bliss, I suppose. As for the new Hercules, I think the film looks terrible. I was unintentionally laughing at the trailer when it aired in front of a movie it didn't belong in front of (I think American Hustle). On the other hand, I'm curious to see what the Dwayne Johnson Hercules looks like. As for a favorite Hercules actor, I haven't seen many, but a it safe to say the Disney animated one was pretty good?

I didn't dislike Troy, I just thought it would have been better to follow Homer. They took some elements from Vergil and then added elements of their own, probably because Orlando Bloom was extremely popular back then and so they tried to make Paris a more sympathetic character. In the stories, he's a bit of a dick.

Plus, I just like the gods and goddesses and wish they would keep them in more often. Athena's fight with Aries is particularly amusing, as she bashes him with a giant rock.

Strangely enough, for all the liberties they take, the God of War games actually portray the mythology well. The original Clash of the Titans, though cheesy, was pretty good on that front too. I've always loved the fight with Medusa.

Yeah. Brett Ratner's "Hercules", starring Dwayne Johnson. And "The Legend of Hercules" starring whoever, directed by some guy who had a few good movies in the 90's...

Ok I will admit I watched Kevin Sorbo as Hercules when I was young and loved the show, as I got older went back and tried to watch and it was horrible. As far as a favorite I couldn't really say but I hope these movies are worthy of watching.

Usually when I think of Hercules I think of Kevin Sorbo. I watched that show all the time.

And it's from the guy that directed die hard 2 which is my favorite of the die hard franchise. I still have mixed feelings about this Hercules movie. I wonder how come that we haven't had at least a teaser trailer for the rocks version of Hercules since it comes out in less than 6 months?

I prefer Kevin Sorbo as voice of Hercules in God of War 3. Great combination!

As for the new Hercules film (not the Dwayne Johnson one) the best they could do is mention that the director made a couple of decent films twenty years ago? And yes, the film does look like expensive episodic television...

This! And Hollywood is to stupid to give this man a cameo. Stupid Hollywood! xD

Kevin Sorbo is the man for the 90s Hercules, loved this show and bought all DVD Boxes last year. But in this FIlmtrailer i cant see anything from Hercules, sorry.

I hope the Dwayne Johnson Movie will be better!

Having already suffered through a marketing survey for the Rock version--and giving my feelings accordingly--I suspect it's getting it's last minute studio fiddling right up to release, and maybe a delay or two.
'Cause it's a mess.

[Show spoiler](Rock's Hercules isn't really "descended from the gods" and doesn't have supernatural strength, he's a warrior jerk with his own entourage who markets his own reputation, and has to learn how to be a True Hero while fighting the tyrant and saving the girl--
Yeah, "Deconstructing the legend" really worked out for Robin Hood, King Arthur and the Lone Ranger, didn't it? )

Yeah, deconstructing legends seems legit in Hollywood. God damnit! Imagine Noah with Laserpistols and stuff in monumentalfilm! Would be the same xD

No, more like "Imagine if Noah was just an old fisherman with a boat who always told everyone in taverns the story of how he once had this big boat with animals that saved the world, they just didn't remember..."

Nonononono...Please, please stop, you're just NOT QUITE getting the conceptual point, here.
Go back and sit through '04's "King Arthur", and then you will know everyone else's pain. And not one single moment before.
(Although the Russel Crowe "Robin Hood" may be used in case of emergencies, but we recommend the former for the maximum pain effect.)

Haven't see the new one yet... but this is how I feel about it from the previews.

I am looking forward to Dwayne Johnson's Hercules movie though.
