Default PS3+Onkyo 605+Cd=2.1 PCM?!

Question for anyone...

I use my PS3 as a Cd player. However, when I play a CD, I can only choose MultiChannel...

It won't let me change to Neo 6: Music...

I changed the player settings to bitstream, but, it still is PCM...

anyone have an insight for me?

If you notice the Bitstream/PCM option is under the BLURAY/DVD section.....
You can only bitstream things like Dolby Digital and DTS.

CDs are recorded in stereo. If you want more channels you need to have your RECEIVER apply some matrixing. If it cant do this, then its a receiver issue, not a PS3 issue.

I also experiment this problem..

If you listen music, you can set manually the audio output and uncheck everthing overs 2.1 pcm. A lot of receiver won't matrix PCM over 2.1

I have the same problem, because it even states on the onkyo manula that the receiver can matrix stereo sources. However, When I plug in an ipod via the RCA cables, the receiver does matrix the sound, it is only with the ps3 that I have problems when listening to a CD.

Read carefully. Virtually all sorround receivers can matrix stereo sources via Composite/optical. Its called Dolby Pro-logic II(x) or similar.

However, very few can matrix PCM signals via HDMI. If you want to matrix your cds, hook it up with either optical or composite (hardly a worthwhile solution)
