Default PS3 40GB - Anything concerning this particular model

Does anyone know how the sales of the new 40GB PS3 have been doing since its release? Given the responses, I am assuming the sales have definitely skyrocketed since and will remain so? Thanks.

I'm not exactly sure, but I know that we'll find out soon enough.

Have the 40gb for a week now. It runs very quiet and puts out a lot less heat (I had the 20gb, but sold it for more than I paid for it). So far so good...just ordered 20 more blu-rays in the past 2 days and added Warhawk and Rainbow Six Vegas.

It seems some stores can't keep them in stock unlike the 80gb version. It took several trips to different stores nearby before finally finding a 40gb model today. Already have a 60gb but figured it would be nice to have a blu-ray player in the bedroom as well.

In japan its sales have past the xbox360s and barely behind the wii. my buddy has been looking for one for the last week with no luck, If sony can keep up with demand it should be a great season.

I bought one...but I already returned it.

Ok, I gotta confess....I had to travel to florida for a week and it was COD4 release week. I don't travel with my PS3, so I arrived in ft. lauderdale and went straight to BB and bought COD4 and a PS3. I couldn't stand going a week without playing COD4, so I said screw it, BB has a 30 day return policy, so I bought it with the intent to use it a week and return it.
Its a nice machine, but I miss my 4 usb ports and ps2 bc.

sorry sony, but i had to do it!

The Wal Mart I work for in Fishers can't keep any 40 gigs in stock. We had about 3 boxes of the 80 gig in the other night, and when I left tonight there were no 40 gigs. Then the Fry's behind us had a display in the front by Customer Service of 40 gigs and they had about 6 left. Hopefully this means this Christmas will be a big one for Sony, despite the 40 gig not having backwards compatability.

Same with me, they don't stay on the shelves. But that's not limited to the 40GB model, the 80GBs are going very fast as well. Seems that price drop put it in the place everyone wanted it. It's going like crazy!

I think it was smart to drop the PS2 compatibility. People already had one of those machines anyway.

The only think I don't like about my PS3 is that that BOGO offers are killing my credit card!

I agree to an extent. I would guess that most of us here probably still have our PS2's, but for those new to the Playstation who were looking forward to playing the older games as well as the new are in a sense getting shafted. For them I think getting the 80 gig would be a better choice. Making the 40 gig IMO was a way for Sony to get more market penetration for Blu Ray in general.

Yup... it's got the 65nm chip so it ought to be cooler. I bought the 40GB PS3 the day it came out, I was waiting it's arrival. It feels cool to me... not as much heat or noise out of it... apparently it is 6db quieter (about 4x as much less noise). Happy so far!

idk, at the Target I work at we've only sold 2 since the release. And we've sold the one 60 GB we got in for some reason (was being sold for $399), and I've sold 2 80GB within the past 3 days and others that work there may have sold mroe. So, not doing too well in Gainesville
