Hi
I pick up its a wonderful life includes both colorized and black and white versions . Rudolph the red nosed reindeer the original Christmas Classic on blu ray last night. on both of them the screen is so small then watching. Why? Is this how it's supposed to be or do I need to return them? Thank you |

Look at the specs. Here. On this very site.
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Its-a...-Blu-ray/6097/ Original aspect ratio: 1.37:1 https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Rudol...Blu-ray/13940/ Original aspect ratio: 1.33:1 Then, Google to see what aspect ratio means because it's something you're going to want to know about if you continue buying Blu-ray. This will probably be most helpful to you: http://www.widescreen.org/aspect_ratios.shtml Last edited by lilboyblu; 01-17-2014 at 02:16 AM. |

If so, I'm thinking it must be some sort of display setting on your TV that's doing something 4:3 formats, since it's happening with 2 different releases, and I assume it's not happening with other BD's you own |

Yeah...this is not a disc issue so don't think about returning them.
There something amiss in a display setting somewhere. This is pretty odd because Blu-ray Discs, players and TVs usually lock into a mode where you can't get this kind of smaller picture. The images you photographed would be common on a DVD but it's strange on a Blu-ray. Check some other Blu-rays to see if this is happening. |

Oh yeah...those are ALL screwed-up. Definite display setting issue and not the disc. WIERD SCIENCE should almost fill the 16:9 screen with barely a sliver of a black bar at the top and bottom.
All of those images have WAY too much space at the top and bottom. The good news is that it's a fixable problem. It's just a matter of finding where you have a wrong display setting. But since all TVs and players are bit different, I can't pinpoint the problem. I will tell you that on my TV, that's the types of image I get in one of the "Zoom" modes. But when I'm viewing a BD, that mode is locked out so I can't replicate it with a BD on my Sharp TV. However, maybe your TV does allow for such a mode...that's where I would start looking. Toggle through settings until those overly thick bars at the top and bottom are gone. IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE and RUDOLPH should have no black bars at the top and bottom (but should have them at the side). You can find screen caps of WEIRD SCIENCE on this site and will see barely perceptible black bars at the top and bottom. So I'd start with the TV (because it's the easiest place to start) and toggle through display settings. If that doesn't work, then you may have to check the set-up of the Blu-ray player. But the discs are fine and you can correct this problem. It just may take some trial and error. |

now that I see the pics that is not how they are supposed to look.
![]() that look (post #4--Rudolph) is commonly referred to as "postage stamp" and no those bds shouldn't look like that, but like another poster said it is just a setting issue either with the player or the tv. you need to try changes with both, though one at a time to find the proper setting combination to display your discs correctly. ![]() Last edited by Arkadin; 01-17-2014 at 11:02 AM. |
