It has been announced that DivX® video technology will be integrated into the PS3.

Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX commented, “We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3. Our technology will expand the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format.”

Current PS3 end users will be able to add DivX functionality to their systems via a separate system software update at a forthcoming date. PS3 game title developers will be able to utilise DivX’s decoder technology by updating the system software of PS3’s Software Development Kit to version 2.00.

?? I hate to say this, but as a mac user.. I have always wonder WTF is DivX?

Still.. from what I've heard, it sounds promising.

If it wasn't on the three speech site I would have waited .. but they tend to be pretty reliable checking their sources before publishing something..

they ought to be because that's one of the places CEO's from SCE post info on everything playstation 3,playstation 2, PSP..its as OFFICIAL as you can get..

DivX is a video format in the avi container (usually, if not always). Sometimes it is confused with those DIVX disc players that Circuit City sold for a year or so back in the late 90's.

I get it now.. so that's why this is so popular. AVI runs on DivX so pr0n sites use AVI don't they? (beats me, I have a wife, i don't visit those sites)
I guess that will make it more popular lol

i cant wait!

i was so disappointed that it didnt play divx files when i got my ps3 (thought it was able to from launch) and ive been emailing them about it ever since, time for a 250gb hd
