Saw it yesterday and quite liked it!!
It's a very long movie!! Just over 3 hours.
Hill and DiCaprio are great together!!
Never really cared much for Jonah Hill before, but he's great in this.
They all were!
Liked this movie and will get it, but only when it's reduced near end of year or something like that.

Hasn't this film come out in 2014, or are you doing the time-warp again?

Im seeing this later and can't wait, I've watched a Scorsese film each night for the past week because I'm so psyched for this, I've heard it's his best film sinCe Casino, but it's going to have to be more than incredible if it beats The Departed for me.

It came out Christmas day in the US, and had done a few festivals before that so is technically 2013...

It hasn't been cut in the UK? We're fine with sex, drugs and language in the adult categories.

It's only animal cruelty, instructions on how to commit criminal activity and films that could cause harm to the general public. 99% of films (would) get through uncut.

I believe we got the same cut version the USA had (to avoid NC-17) anyone know if that is not the case?

Mark Kermode didn't have a lot of positive things to say about it, but that bumps it up even more, IMO lol

We did. But that is Scorsese's final, director's cut.

I do get where he's coming from, though. It's a fine line. We have lots of movies where the main character or characters aren't traditionally 'good', but Hollywood always finds a way to slot some morality in there, so they're are technically 'good' in some way.

You don't really get that, here. Jordan is an arse from the word go and I dare say, still is to a degree in real life, BUT he's immensely entertaining to watch and one could argue that he's closer to a real person, as he has no overall redemption. Same goes for Plainview in There Will Be Blood. He's a right bastard, but I found him relatable in many ways and again, he felt more like a flawed and real person, not a fictional character.

Of coarse, the other side of the coin is Saving Mr. Banks, I wanted to punch Pamera Travers numerous times. Not once did I give a shit about her past, etc, as she was portrayed as an utterly detestable person and even the Disney-fied attempts to drop her barriers at points, did nothing to make me hate her even less.

Perhaps there's some sexist hypocrisy in there somewhere, lol

Interesting that because it reminded me of Only God Forgives. OK - its most definitely not a Hollywood film but there isn't anyone in the film to sympathise with. I admire it for that but it doesn't make the film easy to like. On the one hand there's a guy that says 'Wanna fight?' but isn't as good as he thinks he is and on the other hand there's a guy who makes Bad Lieutenant look like Snow White and also enjoys extended bouts of karaoke which bore me senseless. Not to mention all the other cops who have the attitude of "yeah this is totally normal in our police force - our captain is expected to do all this kind of stuff..."

Sorry for going off topic!

Some of my favourite protagonists are absolute bastards. Daniel Plainview like you said. But also the titular Aguirre, or even Travis Bickle. In many ways it makes the film better. To me, I've heard this being compared by some people to things like A Clockwork Orange but from what I can tell it's basically like American Psycho mixed with Wall Street, am I right? Obviously that's trimming it down to base description and is an unfair judgement of...well a Scorsese film. It's going to be objectively exceptional before even seeing it. I'm gonna see it next weekend (and soon after that, Llewyn Davis).

Well I saw it and thought it was excellent from start to finish, definitely in my opinion Leonardo's best performance yet.

Loved the movie so much, seen it twice since it came out, I hope a cool steelbook will be released.

It was a million times better than I thought it would be and I had no intention of seeing it because of the subject matter, but I did really enjoy it. Leo did a great job. The lemon scene is worth admission price alone.

I'll buy it when it's a fiver.
