Official Xbox Magazine has the scoop on the Fall Xbox 360 dashboard update, and you better believe it's a doozy. UK-based CVG reports that the December 2 update will allow 360 owners to download and play Microsoft-published Xbox 1 games on their 360s. Let's say that one more time: come December 2, you will be able to download full, original Xbox games to the Xbox 360. The initial list of available games includes Fable, Indigo Prophecy, Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex, Burnout 3, and, of course, Halo: Combat Evolved. Games will cost approximately 1200 Microsoft Points, or $15 USD. Microsoft plans on re-releasing as many Xbox 1 titles as possible through Marketplace. Look out, Virtual Console. sounds pretty sweet to me. maybe this will wake sony up and get emulation and ps2 downloads for the 40gb's. plus theres a few ps1 titles I'd like to have. wake up sony! I'm hoping for enhanced graphics and faster load times. load times are obviously going to be faster..but lets hope for a reslution bump |

Sounds like a great way for Microsoft to rape it's customers of more money. Who wants to play old games when they buy a new console? Or pay more than $10 for them? Holy lord. You'll play it once or twice and then go, "Man this feels old and lame," and then go back to playing Bioshock or any other cool new game.
I'd rather Sony not 'wake up' and continue providing original content. |

and to the other guy. sony is raping for ps1 downloads, so they are no different. nobody is forcing you to buy them. I'd love to have some ps2 games on my hd. |

I’m not a Microsoft fan by any means. After all I went through 3 Xbox 360s in a single year before I gave up on them. But I must say that I think this is a great idea and wish Sony would emulate Xbox Live more.
But I do have the right to change my mind when Home gets released… |

Yawn.
Why do people pay good money on next-gen systems and then want to play last-gen crap? Guess I'm in the minority, but I don't call this news. I'm sorry, were these Xbox games not already available? You'd think it was Super Mario or 10 Yard Fight being available. ![]() |

![]() But at least the PSN downloads are pretty dirt cheap. Who's going to pay 2 or 3 times as much for an old xbox game? Plus you wouldn't fit many on the poxy little hard drive the 360 has (non elite version). As someone has already mentioned, at best you're going to have 13gb free space. |

For $15 id much rather go out and buy a used copy of a game (PS2). Downloading is for suckers, you dont own anything.
Virtual console is more effective because: 1) it covers NES, SNES, N64, Genesis and Turbografix 16. None of those systems have ever been compatible with one another. You would have to buy all those systems individually to play those games. The 360 and PS3 are already compatible with previous gen games. 2) Due to age, a lot of VC games are hard to find and/or more expensive to buy used compared to from VC. Pretty much all those games the 360 is getting are bargain-bin games at this stage (not saying they arent GOOD, just saying legacy xbox games are dirt cheap right now) For the record, I do have a substantial PS1 and PS2 collection. Hasnt grown at all in months (since GoW 2 really) but I still go back to some classics from time to time. |

Sony would simply be shooting themselves in the foot by offering PS2 games online right now, they are still selling too many of them to do this. If you wanted backwards compatibility you should have purchased a 20/60/80GB model. Sony has been VERY clear that they will not be supporting backwards compatibility with the new models but that they will CONSIDER it for future models if the market dictates it. X-Dud has much less of an issue with this since their initial library was so small and the fact that they didn't support full backwards compatibility EVER. |
