As great as I think this forum is, there's one point that could use an essential upgrade.
It would be a huge progress if the topic-starters were able to change the title of their own thread. This forum would benefit from that feature, no doubt. Especially when it comes to oversight. For example, the movie section is filled with dated, incomplete or wrong thread-titles. Release dates that aren't up to date, movie titles that changed, directors or cast-members that aren't even involved or things like "Joe Wright In Talks To Helm ‘Pan’ For Warner Bros" and "Possible untitled project starring Steve Carrell, animated." Very confusing scolling through titles like that. I for one, like to keep my info as to the point as possible when it comes to that. Like : "The Good Dinosaur (Pixar, 2015)". Info keeps changing all the time, but we are not able to keep it that way. And it would sure help to prevent double topics showing up. This counts for many other examples in other parts of this forum also. It sure would be great if this happens. ![]() Thanks in advance for considering. |

This has been brought up in the past where only the Mods are the only ones that can change the OP's thread titles. Not sure why, but the admins will read it.
Until then, use the Report Function or PM a mod in that section and they can update the thread title for you. |

I know that's the current option, thanks for sharing. A very cumbersome way of doing things, imo. I can't imagine the work if I would actually start to do that. That's also the exact reason why the topics still have the dated titles. I think there will be innumerable topics to adjust. And again and again if some info or dates change.
There are (for example) movie topics the search-engine simply can't find, because of extremely dated information. |

It seems like a good idea, but giving members the ability to change thread titles can lead to confusion. For example, we have threads with thousands of posts and hundreds of thousands of views. Changing those thread titles for a whim would not be a good idea.
Let's look at another example where this could be a problem. A member can change the title of an older thread he/she created to a popular topic that already has an existing thread. And, thus making himself/herself the op after the two similarly titled threads are merged ![]() A disgruntled member can change the thread titles for all of his threads...and create havoc in many ways. If anyone wants a thread titled changed they can report the thread or pm the active moderators including myself. I always change titles upon request within a few hours. Obviously, the administrators are the ones who will decide on this ![]() Last edited by Blu Titan; 02-14-2014 at 02:24 AM. |

Also, it's very simple to avoid this, as I've seen on other forums. When you change the topic title, there should apear an "title edited on *date, hour*" notice at the end of the post. Quote:

I believe that in the end it's fair to say most of those negative points are less likely to happen. And it's no counter balance when you put them next to the positive things that will make it all more clarifying. Last edited by estebanē; 02-20-2014 at 03:56 PM. |

I've noticed that if you try to change the title within the frist minute of posting then it will actually change. I've made a few typos in some thread titles not noticed until I posted the thread, then gone in and edited it in the first minute and it's changed.
Same thing when you edit a post quick enough and it doesn't say "Last edited by Mavrick; Today at 09:07 PM." Although this doesn't help when you need to update a title with new info like release dates etc. I like what the Mods have done in the gaming section though, they have a sticky up top where you can post a request to change a thread title, much easier to do than inboxing a mod and they always seem to update pretty quickly. Maybe this method could be extended to the other sections of the forum too? |
