Lately I have been grabbing some DVD sets that either have no blu-ray upgrades or the likeliness of them all happening soon isn't very high despite the fact that they really should be.
Most notably, I've grabbed The Val Lewton Horror Collection and The Film Noir Classics Collection Volume 1, both of which are from warner and look surprisingly great for being SD and feature good extras. My question is this; could you recommend great DVD box sets featuring films not yet on blu? Horror, film noir etc, films with an edge to them. |

Having a hard time imagining must own DVDs at this point.
I do have some box sets that I'm certain will never move onto Blu Ray. For example the Emma Peel Megaset. 16 discs. Diana Rigg Hawtness. However, somehow these discs aren't the greatest in terms of Video Quality. I think it would be great if this set had a do-over. ![]() (I have the version with actual DVD cases for every disc...) If you're into music videos then there's limitless stuff. Endless stuff that went to DVD with zero chance of being revisited on any newer medium. =Brian |

![]() The only thing that stunk about my copy of that DVD set was that the disc art on my copy of the "Look Up in the Sky!" documentary disc was the version from the separate retail release, and not the disc art that matches the rest of the discs in the set as shown in that picture. It wasn't a huge issue, but was a little disappointing. |

![]() ![]() This Godard set is really nice for anyone who considers themselves a serious fan. It has 3 discs, and features four films from his harder-to-find (and underrated) later work: Passion, First Name: Carmen, Detective, and Oh, Woe is Me. There's also a neat little featurette entitled Jean-Luc Godard: A Riddle Wrapped in an Enigma. |

Married With Children: The Complete Series, although it has some of the worst packaging I've seen. The 32 discs are split onto two spindles where they sit on top of each other. Content wise though, this show is tough to beat, and can be had for cheap when on sale....around $32 or so.

A lot of great film noir box sets are only available in DVD. I highly recommend all five of WB's Film Noir Classics sets, as well as the four TCM/Columbia noir sets. The two "Bad Girls of Film Noir" sets are attractively priced for what they offer (Night Editor alone is worth the price of Vol. 2), and TCM's "Dark Crimes" set contains three great films.

The Pink Panther Film Collection. Only the original PP and the Steve Martin films are on Blu. This particular set includes all of the Edwards era titles EXCEPT Return (and also Inspector Clouseau) but it includes Curse & Son which were missing from the original DVD box set release.
