Universal: "American Gangster" ... - Blu-ray Forum

What do you think, is it a waste, that we can´t have it on Blu (for now) ?

I haven´t seen the movie yet, but the trailers look very awesome...

Is it worth all the hype ?

(I mean,.... they compared this movie to "Scarface" & "The Godfather" )

The ending stays true to real life, which diminishes it's power. As for Scarface and The Godfather, there is not as much violence as Scarface or Goodfellas for that matter and the suporting acting and story arc does not lend itself to Godfather comparisons. It really is just another crime drama, rather than a multi-generational gang movie. That being said i enjoyed it for what it is, another november drama overhyped b/c of weak alternatives.

A lot of wasted potential. From the trailers it looked like it was going to be awesome, but it was only so-so. Tried to do too much and ended up not expanding enough on various aspects. I woulndt buy it.

went in expecting alot.

the movie moved like a glacier though. ending was anti-climatic for a movie of this type.

denzel is good though which is to be expected.

I quite enjoyed it a lot... however wouldn't compare it to any of the above mentioned.

I would definitely buy it.

I loved the movie, and I am super bummed that is Universal. Defenetly buying this one on DVD.

I really enjoyed this flick, I would definitely buy it if it was on BD, too bad it's Universal, but hopefully things will have changed by the time it comes out.

yeah, it pales in comparison to Scarface, The Godfather or Goodfellas. It is however a good movie on its own merits. IMO it's Denzel's 3rd best movie (after Training Day and Remember The Titans). I'm also coming around to Russell Crowe, since the last 4 movies I've seen with him in it I've loved. (The Insider, 3:10 to Yuma, American Gangster and A Beautiful Mind)
