Default About a Boy

Couldn't find a thread about this show so I figured I'd start one up. Watched the pilot of this and thought it was a decent show. Really it was just a 20 minute version of the movie and seemed a bit rushed, but I'll keep watching it. I like David Walton and am a big fan of the show's creator Jason Katims, who seems to only do TV shows based on movies between this, Parenthood, and Friday Night Lights. The show got decent ratings with it's premiere Saturday night (with a big Olympic lead-in) and has a very good time slot with The Voice as a lead-in so I think there's a decent chance this show lasts, especially considering how poorly NBC is doing with comedies.

One thing I've learned with NBC, if it's a good comedy, they'll use it as a backup for the 15 new comedies that will fail next year.

This is actually the second attempt to turn About a Boy into a TV show. The first was with a pre-Grey's Anatomy Patrick Dempsey.

I read a review that screened the first few episodes, and apparently it's in total sitcom formula, where the lead character learns a valuable lesson by the end of an episode, only to forget everything in the next episode so he can go through the same process all over again.

Previews I saw for this show looked funny but not something I would really want to watch. Only reason I'm DVRing the series is I know a girl who is on the show. Probably nothing big because she always gets small non-speaking roles but I look forward to seeing her.

Last night was supposed to have new episodes of About a Boy and Growing up Fisher, but less than 2 hours before the episodes were supposed to air they sent out a press release that said they'd be showing the pilots again rather than new episodes.

That little boy was the main character in Toiken and starred as Beast in X-Men movies. post bump. He's pretty lucky.
